I know this information is fairly well documented for UHR denim, but I figured I would share my experience with new, soak and two (cold and hot) washes.  I find this information useful when researching purchases.  Hopefully, you will too.

As you will see, the before and after measurements are not significantly different.  I was actually hoping for more shrinkage and thus I did a second hot wash.  Didn't do much at all.  Against my better judgement and experience, I went with tag 36.  The post wash fit is significantly more relaxed compared to my other IH jeans (all 888 cut).  The denim still needs to settle and I was seeking a slightly more relaxed fit, but in hindsight I wish I had purchased a tag 35.

Haven't seen you around much lately, @Bums_Fan — nice to see you pop up! Hope you're well.

Have you gotten much wear out of your UHRs, or are they a little too big? Mine are fading like crazy.

Appreciate that Bums_Fan.  Are the post-soak/wash measurements (especially the 35.5" waist) after some wear/stretch or straight after the wash routine?

Thanks @popvulture - been a while for sure.  It's nice to get back and reacquainted with the forum.

Life is good for me, hope the same for you.

I just purchased this pair, so the jury is still out.  Wearing them today.  Despite the denim being heavy and a little crispy, they are surprisingly comfortable.  I attribute this mostly to being bigger/relaxed in fit.  I'm going to give them a little chance to settle, but I also don't want to miss out on the shop having tag 35 in stock.

Re: the sizing, I'd say if yours are on the loose side, maybe going down a size and losing an inch is the move. I feel like this denim is softer and has more give than XHS. Not tons, but I would say I'd personally be comfortable going down a size in UHR, while I wouldn't with the XHS (made that mistake before, haha).

I went tts and after a hot soak and a hot wash they fit a bit more snugly than my other 888s.  I’m confident I’ll get some more stretch my spring but I wouldn’t call them tight.  I’m not sure if I notice a difference in the thighs.  They seem fuller because the fabric is so stiff but that will settle.

Looking good! I feel the same about mine - they felt a little tighter up top than my 21oz after a hot soak/warm wash but they are slowly creeping towards comfort! looking forward to progress pics!

We’ve had that book since they were babies, it comes out every Xmas and I can assure you after dozens of readings… that clown serves no purpose in the story.  Other than to molest children I’d imagine.

That whole thing with clowns… unless you can make the clown super funny and adorable leave it alone. It will be traumatic for children. Unless that  is the plan of course.

I've been wearing mine 5-6 times a week since August and they are starting to get super soft - getting close to my 21s!

Luckily I held off on the initial purchase of these and was able to use all of the pre/post measurements on this forum to make an informed size purchase.  I ended up purchasing stateside and going true to size, with the waist coming in about 1/2 inch smaller than posted. (One great thing about purchasing from IH direct is being able to spec out those tiny details!).

My initial impression was “cardboard” compared to my 25s and 25bb.  I warm soaked and then cold washed and hung to dry.  I managed about an inch in shrink in the waist which I was a bit worried about.  These things were crispy AF when they were done drying.  I could literally hold them sideways and the legs stayed shape as I hope you can see below…

After turning them inside out, which took an effort, I was amazed by how much softer they already became.  I put them on, buttoned up my muffin top, and within 10 minutes of walking around and squating they stretched back to original and then some.  I think these may be the best fitting out of the bag of the 8 pairs of IH jeans I have.  Anyway, long winded way to say I appreciate all the info gathered on this forum!!!

Hi Everyone - I wanted to see if there were any opinions on the chainstitch unraveling that is currently happening on my UHR's at the crotch. These have been soaked/washed and only worn about 30 days or so. I am concerned that if I keep wearing them without any repair, this seam is going to completely unravel and I am unable to self-repair. Any help would be appreciated. Never had this happen on a pair of IH's before.

                                      Any thoughts? @neph93 @weftyarn

I don’t think you have much to worry about. The bar tack is good, and there are no broken threads. Is it the loose thread on the inside that goes over the seam that worries you? If so I’ve seen that on my pairs before, without ot being an issue.

If you want to go for safety you could strengthen it with a very small drop of superglue on the thread, (taking utmost care not to make a mess), or throw a couple of stitches in on either side of the seam. Regardless, that is polycotton thread and it would need a lot to make it break.

I would say yes that loose thread. I had a pair of N&F denim that had the same issue and as I kept wearing them, the chain stitch kept unraveling and that whole outer seam pulled apart. I don't know if the construction is exactly the same as these, but it seems to be the same situation from the looks. Just looking for some guidance if they need to be repaired before I keep breaking them in. I'm wearing another pair of 888 SBG's for now!
