Thanks @Paul9221! I own a 777 25oz, where if I’m being honest pry will not get much love now with these in rotation… I prefer the tighter taper of the 777 but not at the expense of the ass crack show that is me when I sit in the 777.  I own the 888 21oz standard indigo and the 888 21oz OD, both of which are flawless.  No more experimenting w different cuts for me

It is almost time to retire my straight tapered 633s, and I think I'll go with the 888 next. How do the legs compare to the 633? More or less room? Can't find the 633 on the website so can't compare measurements…

633 is a Self Edge exclusive cut which is why you can’t find them here.

The 633 is basically the 634, but it tapers from the knee down. The top block and thighs are the same.

The 888 has a higher rise and a little more room in the top block. The thighs are about as roomy as the 633 but the taper starts soon after that and continues gently through the knee and down to the hem.

Thanks! That sounds great…. now to decide between 21oz or 25oz....

Potentially dumb question: would the reported shrinkage of ~1” inseam be expected with a cold soak, or might the shrinkage be less/mitigated?

Found a pair that are already hemmed. The current length is pretty much my minimum, couldn’t go any lower. If I could get away with cold soaks only to avoid losing the length, it might be worth the purchase. Cheers.

I've hot-soaked, hot-low-agitation-washed two pairs of these and never got more than 0.25" of shrink on inseam.  Granted, they were already hemmed by IHUK, so they were like 32.5" before soaking.  I assume that I would've seen more shrink had they been the default ~36" length.

YMMV, but I would say that a cold soak is probably fine in that you won't get a ton of inseam shrink.  I think the greater concern is shrink while washing, which you will probably have to do eventually.  If you're okay with committing to a lifetime of cold low-agitation washes with these, you probably won't see much shrink there either.  And, if you look at what I wrote above, you may not even get much shrink with a hot wash, either.

Just make sure you line-dry, not machine-dry, for lots of reasons 🙂

                        That’s enormously helpful, thanks a bunch @Paul9221

I’ve never had a pair of jeans hemmed, I just cuff and roll. Hence my trepidation. I’ve measured the inseam of my current pairs to the point at which I tend to cuff my jeans to, which is 30”. The pair I’m eyeing are hemmed to 31” so on paper I’d be fine with a small cuff. Wouldn’t wanna lose that extra inch, so I’d have to be very careful…

I never thought I would have a pair that stood up on their own, but here we are. The upper block is awesome, comfy. The rear goes a good few inches higher than many of my other pairs. I do wish there was a bit more taper below the knee, but i imagine that is a symmetrical issue.

And the craziest thing that will be said today: these 25oz feel so light compared to the double knee bibs its like im not wearing anything! They feel like “normal” jeans at this point. I think ive gone mad. They arnt even soft yet and feel like a good pair. I had them hemmed but still have way to much, so probably going to do a tight japanese cuff.

One thing i noticed that i thought was super weird, some of the stitching is different color. So like the left pocket and left fly are one yellow/gold color, and the right side of the fly is a different yellow/gold color. Why is that?

Hey jerkules I don’t think whether a pair is hemmed or not will influence whether or not you see inseam shrink with washing. That is strictly dependent on the way the denim as a whole responds to water. The part I do agree with is that you’ll see minimal shrinkage if you always cold wash with low agitation.

Thanks @sabergirl for your input. I probably didn’t explain myself correctly earlier - normally I don’t get my jeans hemmed, and therefore have lots of extra length to play with. If I were buying a new pair of XHS direct from IH, I’d size by my usual crucial points: waist, thigh etc but wouldn’t even consider the length/shrinkage. I’d just cuff it where it felt good once I’d got the shrinkage out. Sizing for length adds an additional factor that’s outside of my experience. Since I’ve never tried to determine the “sweet spot” with regards hemming, I’m now finding it tricky. Add potential shrinkage and I’m even more adrift lol.

In any case, I’ve decided to pass on the like new pair I saw. 31” is just too close to the wire for me, and I do like to have a little cuff. I’ll hold out for when I can afford new from IH.

                                Thanks for the help y’all.

On another note, my 21oz 888s have the two tone stitching too.

Completely normal on properly made jeans, there are in fact about 12 or 13 different yarn types used in the construction. of a single pair of jeans, each selected for the properties needed for a particular function…..
