It's going to be chilly Arthur and I have considered that. We're staying in Sodona for 3 days.

I would be the coolest guy on the plane too….

If you want to take it on the trip then please do. I’m sure Matty can hold off for a week more.

Absolutely love Sedona. Highly recommend the Pink Jeep tour if they’re operating.

We were just browsing that site yesterday @Jett129. We plan to do everything by foot for now, but my wife did see a few tours of interest on Pink Jeep.

We have a love/hate relationship with anything touristy, though i know i could be called a hypocrite in many aspects of that thought process.

for example, in new Orleans we balked at going to see Oak Alley plantation for 5+ years because i won't get on a tour bus full of people, but finally last year we rented a car so we could travel on our own terms and timing.

My wife and I are totally with you on avoiding touristy trap kind of things, but the trade off is this takes you to places that you probably wouldn't be able to reach, safely,on foot. it is kind of scary at times. Obviously we loved it

Back from Sedona. We packed so light and tight that the Mad Red simply didn't have a space in the luggage. We had classic desert weather, waking up to 30 degrees and shooting up to near 70 by late afternoon.

We hiked 10+ miles per day for our 2 full days. It was a short getaway, but we have people taking care of the cat and the horses, so that's always a consideration.

My wife is a spiritual type of person, so meditation was a focus when we got to the vortexes and other high energy areas.

We hiked Boynton Canyon, The Mesa Airport Loop, Bell Rock, Oak Creek, Cathedral Rock, and a couple others. Our Air BNB was at the base of Thunder mountain and a short walk to the Amitabha Stupa.

The view from the Airport Mesa Vortex and Loop. this was especially cool because the airport sits up high and the 3 mile hike around it has great views the entire time.

                back home to the snow.

Thanks for sharing your trip @jordanscollected. Amazing place. The only time I've heard about Sedona was in a Hold Steady lyric, so you've inspired me to read up about it…

you have to stop to take pictures, but after awhile they all look the same. my photo feed is a big red mountain collage.

the other thing to note is on most trails, you have to look down to watch your step, if you look around to enjoy the view, you'll end up on your face, or worse, off the side of a cliff. we almost learned that the hard way

We found the food to be disappointing, which we attributed to the fact that there’s no college/university there. No hungry college kids in search of good, reasonably priced food.

agreed @Jett129 and the lack of college is a great point. The food scene was incredibly disappointing. either a menu was too boring, or too expensive to for what you got. We have no problem paying for high end meals, but don't try and charge me $40 for enchiladas.

We ate at the Local Juicery 3 times, and an extremely hippie restaurant called the ChocolaTree for lunch one day. Too much food designed for a typical snowbird like my parents.

Nice to see both @jordanscollected and @Matt in my neck of the woods. Sedona is a cool town for sure but if I'm there for the day I'll pack a lunch, hah. One notable thing about food in Sedona is that it has the world's only McDonald's with turquoise arches instead of yellow.

Wish we weren't in a pandemic so I could have said hello!

I love that turquoise arch!  We saw it driving through town.  I wish I’d gotten a picture.  😢

We didn’t stop in Sedona proper on our way to Slide Rock State Park or Red Rock SP because it was crazy crowd we and not really worth the prices for us.  The places we ate in nearby Cottonwood were pretty good.  Curry at fojol bros and burgers at Bing’s Burger Station.

It’s funny though, every time we mention Sedona to someone the stock response is “I love Sedona!”

@Palmer regarding the McDonalds, we drove by many times but didn't notice the arch's, what a miss!

@Matt That's all we have heard too about Sedona "We love it!". I'm used to larger cities with hidden gems and well knows chef's that branch out to create affordable food that's amazing. That was as easy to find as a lake in Sedona.

Allie and I slowly backed away when we ended up walking through the "Sedona T-shirts" section of town.

Yeah, I would think the authenticity of a spiritual vortex is diminished ever so slightly when it’s next to tshirt shops on either side.  Jerome was really cool up on the mountain.  Looked like some good food up there.  Again though, so… many... people.
