True, Sanforized denim is inherently more consistent than shrink to fit, but even IH's STF offerings don't vary like Samurai denim.

And I feel obligated to mention that this is one of the nice things about Iron Heart; consistency.

It's not 100 % but it comes pretty close!..

I would think the weave would have something to do with the amount of shrinkage, correct me if I'm wrong…

I'm nowhere near an expert, but I think you're right, Blackheart.  Seems like the tighter woven denims shrink and stretch less.  I think that's why shrinkage goes down as weight goes up; the weave tension is higher by necessity in the heavier weight stuff.

imo, tightness & type of of weave are just 2 of the factors.  kind of cotton used & post-loom/finishing process involved also affects denim behavior pertaining to shrink/stretch.

IH uses same [maybe a couple of mills] for their jeans.  hence, the consistency.
Samurai got several__ just to maintain the constant change & variety of denim in their offerings.

correct me [any1] if i'm wrong,  but the softness comes from the long sliver of the Zimbabwean cotton fibers & thickness/gauge of the yarns used.

Like I said, I'm not an expert by any means.:)  No surprise my conjecture blows.

And I expect you're right, BrownIcon, though as we've seen, my view is suspect at best.

You're right on the mark Brown, longer fibers do make them softer which is why the SR denim is my
favorite of all time. Samurai does weave tight and at first the denim is very abrasive, especially on my 510's.

The long staple cotton allows us to weave at a low tension and achieve the weight whilst not compromising the integrity of the weave…

i think SAMURAI is more a JOKE DENIM or is more happy to try out new things…like a surprise bag;-)

Samurai likes to experiment Alex, that's for sure! Nothing wrong with that either but when you're spending
that kind of money on jeans you want them to fit and not shrink beyond tag size to the point where they're
unwearable. IH is consistent and true to weight.

LUV IH denim, but if you're not into slim cuts & prefer the likes of a 634,  how many IH pairs can one have?
Samurai allows  denimheads to foray & experience different denims on a preferred cut

as for proper sizing, one needs to ask questions about denim behavior [eg, re shrinkage] before copping.

Agreed Brown, I did research on the 510's before I bought them and it said to go TTS so I got a 33 waist.
After the first cold wash/dry I could hardly button them, pre-wash fit was about an inch and a half larger which
was fine but once they were dry they were too small.
Aside from IH I've been buying other Japanese raw denims in a 34 and they've all been fine, I'm going to work
on the 510's though, see if I can get them to stretch in the waist.

texas cotton will stretch some more down the line.
as for now, you just need to flex the waistband.

if i may suggest__ wet the top block : pull to stretch the waistband  : button up & stick a hanger or w/e against the waistband [w/c is about your waist size] :  & let dry.

always stick the hanger before you soak & keep it till they fully dry.
do [this] routine to temper the waistband until the denim soften up from wear & stabilizes
