Mine arrived yesterday, ordered my usual size and hem. Put them on and they are perfect.

The 18 0z. was my first denim several years ago in the 666 cut, and man, the way it fades is just special.

Everyone needs at least one pair in this fabric.

To be completely accurate, it is not the chain stitch itself that causes the roping. It is the folder. The folder, obviously folds the cuff before the needle puts a stitch through the denim, but it also adds differential friction to the bottom part of the folded hem versus the the top part, this results in the weft shifting slightly through the upper and undersides of the stitched hem, it is that weft offset that causes the roping. I could hem a pair of jeans on a 43200G and get zero roping if I manually folded and basted the hem before doing the final stitch, obversely if I used the same folder on a flatstich machine, I could achieve roping....

New jeans day 👖 When I joined IHUK, 18oz was the first denim I tried — always loved the fabric, but didn't get on with the 555 cut I initially went with. I missed out the last time it restocked, so wasn't going to let it pass me by again!

These look great and the rise measurements are quite similar to my 888s which makes now consider these for variety instead of waiting on 888 21oz. Hmmm...

@Northman @cyclops The pair I'm wearing above is a tag 33. I previously compared them with the same tag size in 634 21oz. Even though there's not a lot in it on the charts, the rise definitely feels a little higher (in a good way) on these 👍

After a few days these are becoming one of my favorite jeans ever. I love how the fabric feels and I really like the fit of these for a slightly more relaxed silhouette. I’ve mostly worn slimmer cuts before but I have a pair of the 21oz 634’s, which are significantly wider below the knee. I like the fit of these 18oz 634’s a lot more.

I picked up a pair of these because I wanted variety to my 21oz and 25oz 888s. I am very happy. I also went down a size to 38 from 40 which is another reminder for everyone to always refer to the size chart and not the tag size alone. I wear my 888s a bit relaxed and I like that with the heavier denim. These in 38 worked super well for me while before I tried 21oz 634s and they did not.
Coming down to 18oz already feels significantly lighter to me and I don't mind that the top block is a tad bit more snug when the fabric is a bit lighter compared to my 888s. The main thing for me was that the rise was not too different from my 888s ( something that put me off with 634s I tried before ) Just gotta get used to the slightly bigger hem, but the jeans drape so nicely already. I dunno if my ultimate would have been to wait for the 18oz 1955s but I am certainly happy I got these because they feel like a year round pair and I now own a pair of the OG cut.

Is 18 oz enough of a difference in weight from 21 oz to really notice?

Was leaning towards 14 oz. as a switch up weight.

I wasn't sure if the following question warranted its own thread or if asking here would suffice; the IH 634 seems like a good option for wearing with cowboy boots, yes?

I tend to look at both rise and hem/leg opening as to what might work with cowboy boots - usually settling on something between 8 and 9 inches, with the sweet spot right in the middle. The 634 seem like they fit that bill. My template is the Wrangler 13MWZ, which, despite its high rise, I like quite a bit everywhere else, so it's my reference. I found some Mister Freedoms in two different fabrics that are similar, but I always return to Iron Heart.

The 18-oz seems to strike a good balance between the 14 and 21 adn 25 heavyweights. Am I on the right track here?

It should be all good. I have a pair of 633s SBG that fit well, if a bit tight in the waist, so a 634 with a comfortable waist should be nice.

Truthfully, I tend to wear the 13MWZ and IH 888 more at where I typically wear my pants, which is lower than what Iron Heart would say for the high-waist cuts.

I can dig it. While I don't have anything like a Mr Lou - my foot sports too high an arch to make those work - I gotta believe that my cowboy boots have similar shaft circumference to that of engineer boots.

Really what I want, and this might be sacrilege, is an Iron Heart version of the 13MWZ. The 634 seems close.
