RE: The Flat Headposted in Other Brands and Shops
@SKT I think it looks great on you. It looks comfortable. If it was more fitted, it probably wouldn't be as comfortable. Recently, I've had to get rid of a few pieces that fit really well aesthetically but weren't as functional/comfortable. I guess it just depends on where you are in your clothing journey. It also seems to be true that if you wear anything with confidence and just don't give a shit what other people think, somehow it manages to look cooler. Not sure why that works, but it seems to. Lol

@mmerkle I have some Red Wing Beckmans that I had resoled with a wedge, and it's made them MUCH more comfortable in terms of standing for long portions of the day. They certainly don't look as nice/formal as they did with the stock soles, but the comfort gained has been well worth it.

RE: BROTHERHOOD OF BIBposted in General Chat
Just over two years ago, the man, the myth, the legend @endo served as the guinea pig for some sample hairline overalls that to my knowledge have not made their way into circulation, and a seed was planted. I thought they looked incredible on him and logged the observation away for further consideration. Since then, I have seen many of you vaunted sisters and brothers of the bib doing this incredible garment justice, but until recently I wasn't ready to take the plunge into the blissful comfort of an unrestricted waistband. Then I noted that the purveyor of all things Iron Heart, obscure or otherwise, @Clint_D had a nice pair of 819s for sale. My trepidation was noteworthy, so I asked my amazing partner what she thought about the prospect of her husband possibly looking like a train conductor. Her response, "I think you should give them a try. They might be a game changer for you." I tell my wife that choosing her was the best decision I've ever made, and I'll be damned if she didn't help further solidify that impression with her unerring support. Clint delivered, as he always does, and I have been thoroughly enjoying my very first pair of overalls ever. I've never worn them, not even as a kid, and never even considered them until this incredible Iron Heart community helped me understand how great they could be. Thank you, folks for your contributions to the forum and to this page in particular. Please consider this my application to the hallowed halls of the bib.

@Clint_D hooked me up with these sweet 819s - enjoying the comfort. Paired with the 235 in gray and a Dehen beanie seems to be ok. My son approves!

@WhiskeySandwich Do you live in Sacramento? This describes perfectly my daily experiences of driving here. I often wonder two things: where the hell are the police when these morons are pulling their special maneuvers, and how have car insurance companies not found a way with all of their billions to track these knuckle draggers and jack up their premiums to account for this recklessness? I'm pretty sure we safe drivers are paying more to make up for these special people.

Love these 18 ounce 555s I got from @Bailey on the marketplace. They're nowhere near looking as good as @T4920 but I'm working on it.

@Mizmazzle I hope you find that, my dude. Most students are wonderful human beings, and it's incredibly rewarding to build relationships with them and see them grow. I will miss that.

RE: Random conversationsposted in General Chat
Couldn't agree more @Mizmazzle. I grew up poor and charged into this profession with a helluva lot of passion and positive intentions. Came in with a MA in History, some decent writing skills, years of customer service experience that hardened me a bit to the bullshit, but I still just can't deal with the continual onslaught of unrealistic expectations, micromanagement, and cacophony of mental noise that goes along with this profession. So much needs to change, but those of us who are here in the trenches are rarely asked, and the ones who do speak the loudest are often the dreaded "yes men" that seem so frequently to be first in line for promotions to administration.

@goosehd That made me laugh hard!
Yeah, my wife and I don't utilize that method of correction for our kids, though that is what I grew up with. My grandma used to tell me about the Catholic nuns at her elementary school in San Francisco - they'd use a ruler on kids' hands, paddles, and all varieties of corporal punishment. I'd say we've come a long way. Sadly, we appear to have gone too far in some regards. I have a coworker who broke up a fight in his classroom, and one of the students threatened to shoot him. Kid got suspended for a few days and was back in his class. Blows my mind. -

Fellow teacher here. High school at an inner city school. This will likely be my last year in education - at least anything below college. Been in the thick of it for nearly nine years now, and it's pretty damn ludicrous. Recently watched a vid on Instagram by a teacher, and she suggested something brilliant: all adults in the U.S. should have to substitute teach to see what it's like. I feel your pain @Oaktavia and @Mizmazzle. Kudos to you for soldiering on. I think I'm done.
