I love seeing classic country shows.  I love seeing them in divey places.  My first post apocalypse shows coming up soon in Oct then 2 in Feb.  Can’t wait.  I really can’t remember who I saw last.

Man, I’m with you on classic country in a dive bar. It hits all the right spots for me.  You probably have seen it, but if not, I highly recommend the semi-recent “Country Music” documentary by Ken Burns. Damn it was good and I learned a ton.

On a separate note, I mentioned in another thread my love for bands like Husker Du.  I also love classic country, so I got lucky when I went to school in Columbia, MO in the early 90’s and got to see Uncle Tupelo, who I think kind of invented that “alt-country” genre.  Saw them a ton and they became one of my favorite bands. It didn’t hurt that they absolutely rocked live.

LOVE Uncle Tupelo. But I think that if I had to credit one act for founding Alt Country I would go back to Neil Young. Listening to an album like Harvest Moon it's all there! Just got a little punkier downstream.

            Think it, be it.

Good point about Neil. I think I should have probably used the term “cow-punk” (as awful as that sounds).  Although his stuff with crazy horse is in that vein too. I remember when I first heard the intense staccato rhythm of “Graveyard Shift” paired with that telecaster…that stuff was made for me.

While my mind is on “country, alt-country, country-folk”, are there any Richard Buckner fans around here?  Guy doesn’t get his due I think

@Dmart Buckner’s first 4 albums are really good. I mean, the guy did an entire album based on poems by Edgar Lee Masters. He’s wonderfully weird. The album “Devotion & Doubt” is my favorite but it is a capital D Downer.

@Jett129 What a great track. Have you ever listened to any Bottlerockets?  They’re good stuff too I think.

@mclaincausey  Cow punk, when you hear it , you know 😉

I currently listen a lot the last knife fighter.

@Jett129 @mclaincausey  The Bottle Rockets “1000 dollar car” brings back lots of good (and not so good) memories from my youth.

“A thousand dollar car, it’s life was through
‘Bout 50,000 miles before it got to you
Why did I ever buy, a thousand dollar car”  😁

That’s so good!  They have a song simply called “dog” that has been played on repeat by my kids because we got a pandemic puppy this past year.

I read a story recently about Brian Henneman and him retiring from the band and the “road”. Basically he just didn’t want to be away from home anymore. He had a hell of a run. He played on the first couple Wilco records I think and maybe the last Uncle Tupelo record.
