I can’t imagine this will catch on in any significant way, at least for a several years. Zippers that require a whole new setup for installation? I can’t imagine the factories are all going to be supplied with these. And how would the huge retailers who contract with hundreds of places scattered across the world be consistently able to get the new hardware and assure all their outlets have the machines?
It’s just another step towards the evil fast-fashion mentality against repair. That’s how I see it anyways. How can they assure we have to replace garments instead of repairing them? Make a whole new closure that relies on tech that people don’t have access to.
