Giles: hypothetical question you probably don't know the answer of but what the hey… If the grey 816 whipcords come to fruition, what colour thread would be used for the stitching?.. Both brown and olive use grey stitching... Kinda hoping it'll be olive...
The 'Sample' thread stitching looks (olive)green to me … hmm ::)

@Giles thanks for the measurements on those, unfortunately they are about a size too small for me.

@Giles or anyone other IHUK staff, what sort of perks does an IH employee get? Do you guys and gals get first dibs on new product? Generous employee discount? Also, does everyone at IHUK wear IH exclusively or do you sometimes wear other brands? I'm also curious, what other brands does Haraki-san like?
-
I don't know how it operates in Japan, but in the UK this is how it works….
- We get last dibs on products. It would be more than a little rude if we were to be seen cavorting around in hard to get stuff when our customers had missed out. If there is the size/colour combination that someone wants after one week, then they can grab one. When we had to do the recall on the original turquoise/grey UHF's one of my retailers asked if he could keep just one for himself. My response was along the lines of "are you fucking serious? We are telling our customers, the people who buy this brand, the people who put food on the table that we won't allow them to keep the shirt, but you can!"
- We wear the samples and I randomly get them made in different sizes (unless I really need to know very critically how it fits, then I get my size made), so various people here can benefit. It's important for us to understand what we are selling, especially if it is a new cut or fabric
- Yes they can buy anything they want at cost - why would I even consider wanting to make a profit out of my staff?
- I don't tell people how to dress, but it if they don't wear predominantly IH, then I have to question how into the brand they are
The only other clothing brand I have seen H wear is Patagonia.

Interesting and thanks for the info. I initially assumed that when IH puts a new product into production then maybe you ask your employees if they want something and tabulate those numbers into your totals. That's gotta be hard when IH releases a kick ass new shirt or pair of jeans and you're the last one to get in on it. It's pretty cool though that you think of your customers first.
Have you ever wanted a new shirt or pair of jeans and missed out on it?

IHSH-23 Purple
IHSH-38 Green
IHSH-70 Sax
IHSH-86 GreenThen I grew up and realised I don't wear shirts…..
Jeans are easier for me. I have an uncanny ability to fade them faster than anyone I know, so I usually get samples made in my size so that I can get an idea of how they will look before we release the production version.....

@Giles one more question, have you ever vetoed an idea by Haraki-san that you thought wasn't any good? Or does Haraki-san decide what stays and what goes? Just curious if your relationship with him allows you to say, 'man, that's a horrible idea.'
