I don't know how it operates in Japan, but in the UK this is how it works….

      • We get last dibs on products.  It would be more than a little rude if we were to be seen cavorting around in hard to get stuff when our customers had missed out.  If there is the size/colour combination that someone wants after one week, then they can grab one.  When we had to do the recall on the original turquoise/grey UHF's one of my retailers asked if he could keep just one for himself.  My response was along the lines of "are you fucking serious? We are telling our customers, the people who buy this brand, the people who put food on the table that we won't allow them to keep the shirt, but you can!"
      • We wear the samples and I randomly get them made in different sizes (unless I really need to know very critically how it fits, then I get my size made), so various people here can benefit.  It's important for us to understand what we are selling, especially if it is a new cut or fabric
      • Yes they can buy anything they want at cost - why would I even consider wanting to make a profit out of my staff?
      • I don't tell people how to dress, but it if they don't wear predominantly IH, then I have to question how into the brand they are

The only other clothing brand I have seen H wear is Patagonia.

Interesting and thanks for the info. I initially assumed that when IH puts a new product into production then maybe you ask your employees if they want something and tabulate those numbers into your totals. That's gotta be hard when IH releases a kick ass new shirt or pair of jeans and you're the last one to get in on it. It's pretty cool though that you think of your customers first.

Have you ever wanted a new shirt or pair of jeans and missed out on it?

Then I grew up and realised I don't wear shirts…..

Jeans are easier for me.  I have an uncanny ability to fade them faster than anyone I know, so I usually get samples made in my size so that I can get an idea of how they will look before we release the production version.....

@Giles one more question, have you ever vetoed an idea by Haraki-san that you thought wasn't any good? Or does Haraki-san decide what stays and what goes? Just curious if your relationship with him allows you to say, 'man, that's a horrible idea.'

                            Helloo,
been lurking here for a long time
                            & finally joined the forum.

                            Thing is,
I have trouble choosing my size on 634S & 634Z.

Since I do not own any rigid jeans, I don't have any pair of jeans to reference accurately.
I've tried with my old jeans that contain elastin, and waist size was 19~19.5 x 2 = 38~39 (inch)
But as I mentioned, it is elastic. So, I guess I should go bigger than 39?
My widest waist circumference is 40.5 inch.
I usually wear 34 in other jeans with elastin but I know for sure that's because they stretch.
But we're talking about super rigid raw denim right here.

So, what do you guys think I should do?
                            Should I take 38 or 40 or maybe… 42?

Looking forward to hearing some wisdom from you guys.

                            Thanks a million

Yeah, I guess 38 will be fine.

                                One more thing,
Is it normal that a jean size from different companies differ this much(as much as 4-6inches)?
I didn't realize how fat I am until I measured my waist to buy this iron heart denim.

Guess I'll have to eat less and workout even more! 😞

The 21oz used on the 634S is quite forgiving and can stretch up to 2" with wear. They maybe uncomfortable for the first week but you'll be golden after that. Go for a W40 and you'll be annoyed at the loose waistband after a week.

No probs. One more thing, if you're ordering from IHUK then get in touch and ask them to measure a few of the W38's. Waist measurement can vary on individual jeans so W38 that comes in at 37.2" may be a problem for you, but a W38 that comes in at 38.4" may be perfect.
