Curious if there's some more info floating around, but I noticed with all my pairs of denim, the indigos are always easier to break in/soften up faster than any of my black pairs. Is it because of the dyes themselves or is it a different process that might cause this? Sorry for what might be a rookie type question, just always wondered why that might be or if I'm crazy to think that lol. Thanks!

Depends what black you are talking about. If your black jeans have a black (or any colour dyed) weft, then they will be harder to break in because both the warp and the weft have been dyed.

@Giles Got ya! Yeah, do you guys make a black pair with an undyed weft? From what I can find, (at least the 555 cut) it seems like all the black denim jeans have some sort of dyed weft from what I could tell. Could be just plain missing it though 🙂

@Ed-Rekuc Overdyed black might be an option, although this is technically not a black denim. SBG gets some great fades, although warp and weft are both dyed, even if it is different techniques

@Tago-Mago True! I do have a pair of Indigo ODs which did break in easier. I had to rephrase my thought process after writing because I though the SBGs were a undyed weft but then had to re-read the techniques. I guess the only true comparison I had was the Indigo/Indigo vs Indigo/Black that I have, where the IBs were slightly more (for lack of better terms) "Crunchy", but that could just be me. Thanks for the help though guys, I like reading about all the different types products/techniques when I can!

@Ed-Rekuc Years ago there was a black/white denim and I still have the jeans in the 555 and 634 cuts. If I can find a picture I’ll post it. Don’t think it was especially popular back then. There are work and western shirts made from a 12OZ black/white denim.

@Ed-Rekuc I can find these two fabrics:

IH-1634 Black rope dyed warp, white weft
IH-634S-21blk Black sulphur dyed warp, beige weft

@Giles or @Alex will surely be able to add anything else

There was also one run of a 21oz black denim with an unbleached natural went than presented as cream/light brown. It was gorgeous. And singularly unpopular. Go figure.

SBGs are pretty soft IMO... they definitely don't have that crunch that some of the other dyed weft denims have.

The idea of a black warp and white or natural weft is wild to me — I'd really love if IH made something wacky like that again sometime. Although I do completely get why it might be a tough sell. Kinda niche.

@neph93 I seem to remember you having a pair of the jeans. Maybe they were 22OZ? Was there also, maybe, a Type 3,that at some point might have been over dyed? Or am I thinking of something else?

@neph93 I would have never thought that it would fade to a brown. All these posts are crazy to think of the possible colors and fades by just changing a few things around! I would rock those browns more than my regular chinos ✊

@popvulture Agreed! SBGs are super soft when you work them in. That's why I had to pause when I read it's black warp and weft. I really thought that maybe it was a white weft at first, hence why they get so soft.

That being said a black warp and white weft I feel like could be just straight pajamas with how comfortable they could get lol
