This is sort of a general 634 question — I'm wearing my 666 XHS today and I really would not mind a bit more room in the top block.

How much more room is there in the 634?

Not that much. It is a little more roomy due to the thigh being more generous, but still snug over the hips and in the rear.

What's your inseam? The 1955´s have wide thigh but the taper will be reduced with a decent hem job. Either way I suspect you'd dig them.

The 1955s seem great but from what I gather, they seem constantly on the verge of extinction… plus no XHS. I'm guessing no UHR either. One can hope? Dunno, I'm just a big fan of higher rise straight legs — they're sorta ideal for me. I've gotten some Mr. Freedoms and McCoys over the past year that really have the perfect fit, but I strongly prefer IH denim.

@henry_david @Palmer y'all mentioned enjoying the room — have you owned any 666? If so, thoughts on the diffs?

I have 666 in a 40, and they still feel trimmer in the top block (except the waist) than my 38 in 634 or 888. An older pair of 666 that I have in 38 isn’t comfortable to put on any more.

666 doesn’t sound like the play for you unless you want to size up. If you’re willing to size up, I’d take another look at 555, also.

At the end of the day, I think neph is right—I’d look for 1955 or stick with 634 for straight cut fit from IH.

Thank you! I like the rise of 555s and 888s, really sorta my ideal for the top block situation. They're both just more tapered than I'd like — 888s barely get over my engineers and 555 not at all. I guess for me it's all about the rise, being a tall/lanky, long-waisted person. Plus I'm just severely over skinny jeans.

The next pair of IH I get will be a 634, likely the UHR. Psyched to see how they fit, hopeful that the little more room will push them over the edge for me comfort-wise.

@popvulture – Well, the only time I could wear the 666 was when I was about 170lbs. (read: almost dead). I'm 190lbs. and 6'6" and I just wouldn't wear the 666 cut anymore. I would have to size up far too much in the thigh to make it work for me. The slimmest cut I wear anymore is the 634 which I consider to be a contemporary (slim) straight cut.

Thanks, @popvulture  😉 I'm a 34" in the standard 634 cut and a 33" in the 634-XHS (both bought primarily for the thighs). I just … love that cut so much, especially the XHS. I was wearing them out and about last night and they rule super hard. The 888 and 1955 cuts seem rad, but I like the high midrise of the 634 better than a true high-rise.

@popvulture I bounce back and forth between my 666 and 634. The 634 has a bit more room in the top block and a higher rise than the 666. The real difference between the cuts is from the thigh down though. You'll really feel the difference in the upper thigh and knee.

I like both cuts but I gravitate towards the 634 when I'm feeling a bit fat or want to have increased mobility.

It's nice to change my silhouette with the wider leg. You might find yourself reaching for a more relaxed shirt to go with the 634, I know I have.

Tag size is a poor guide.

Assuming you have a worn pair of 634s, measure them and compare with the XHS.

When soaked and stretched through wear the XHS will end up about half an inch over published measurements. So you need a pair with starting measurements half an inch smaller than your worn 634s.

Hey @Garrow  😎 I wear a tagged 33" in the XHS and tagged 34" in the 21oz. The batches change in sizing minimally with each run and the averaged out measurements are on the site. I'd suggest doing a side-by-side comparison of the two models to see how they stack up. I buy for thigh size while others are more concerned about other specs.

I keep a "tight" pair and "loose" pair of both.  The tighter pair stretches in the waist as we would expect but looks a bit slimmer through the knee–-a look my wife prefers.  But basically I do wear the same size in each..  If you're wondering about those bruises on the your thumbs trying to get the 25 closed, that's normal.  And in my experience, the 21 stretches a lot more than the 25 even after both are well worn in---and they go "back" after a wash.
