Price is steep but I've always liked the design aesthetic. I also like "weekender" they did for Art & Science in Japan.

Would be a great bag for hauling around on the boat 🙂

I’ve been traveling more lately and thinking that my occasional back and shoulder pain might be tied to schlepping heavy backpacks and duffles. So I looked for a made in Japan wheelie bag. Ended up with a Proteca from Ace bags. 1 trip in, so far so good.

@68degreesorless Nice, I've been looking at one of these for a while. Just can't seem to pull the trigger on a rolling suitcase. Switch to a duffle many years back and haven't really looked back

Tried to order one these back in early 2021 and he cancelled the order on me in July (health reasons, no hard feelings). Fell off my radar for a while but I recently managed to score one second hand. I had ordered a custom in 500D Cordera but this is VX42.

Nigel Cabourn has teamed up with Trakke for a new version of the Swiss Army Rucksack. Halley Stevensons has recreated the original nettle and cotton blend fabric that the originals were made from. It looks lovely but will be reassuringly expensive.

@Graeme Ah.. nice. I had one of the originals 30 years ago, but it had been stored in a damp basement at some stage and had to be thrown out. As far as I recall it was painful on long hikes fully loaded, and quite short in the back...

@Tobi, thanks. There was a comment by Alec Farmer (the owner of Trakke) that the bag has been slightly upsized and updated. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

I have been using my Jansport Driver 8 for the past 6 years. Durable and versatile luggage bag, the only downside is its weight as a backpack.

I thought we had a travel tips thread but couldn’t find it.

Anyway, got this 24k mAh Anker battery on a recent sale to replace another Anker with something more compact. It is such a great battery and it allows you to charge it will also discharging it to charge devices, which I missed on the last one. Then I got a case that easily holds it and a magnificent Anker charger and various cables. For any who travel a lot, it’s a great option, and it can charge or at least delay discharge of your laptop battery.

I'm not sure how much maintenance would be necessary. Leather jackets don't generally need a lot of care.

The biggest issue for me would be weight, it's going to be a lot heavier than something built from more modern materials. On a day-to-day basis this isn't a problem, but some airlines have a 7 kg limit for carry-on and burning 2 or 3 kg for a leather pack is going to eat into what you can take onboard.

I'd expect durability to be better than other materials, as leather is fantastic for abrasion resistance.

Carryology reviewed the Kasperi leather roll-top in 2021. That should give you a better idea of what they're like.

@Oliver_YO181 This may be a useless comment, but other than office use and cooler weather commuting, you will get basically zero breathability and deal with a sweaty back in warmer weather if you are trying to use a leather backpack for hikes.

Mirroring what has already been said, leather looks great and wears in beautifully but is heavy and sweaty. I have a beautiful Loyal Stricklin backpack but it is largely reserved for colder weather, meetings, or classy carry days.

Patagonia sling bag 8l. I never really wanted to 'wear' a sling bag (too much resemblance to the ever dreaded hip bag),
but it's great for walking. All one can do is buy it in hard colours such as khaki and black...

@Anesthetist pretty cool. But they desperately need an editor because they are desperately in love with the smell of their own farts. Way too much work to get the gist. Even the summary is bloated with marketing bullshit instead of simple functional facts.

                                        Calm down, Carryology.
