Got me some 1970s reiusse hightops. They are a lot better made than my last pair of regular chucks that I wore at least 5 years ago. Will be interesting to see how they hold up over time, usually chucks were shredded super fast.

Cheap and poorly made, but still mining people's nostalgia for when they were better?  Sure, I'll agree with that.

                  However, unlike Levis, they're hideous.

I had a pair of grey one with a pink cuff at the top when in high school. Wore them into the ground, literally.

I never used to like converse. Grabbed my first pair maybe last year or two….love them. I have....7 pair with another on the way. I have a show problem....so many more....I need to get rid of some.

Just started wearing the 70s and they are way better than standard Chuck's! I'll have to take a picture sometime soon.

Not happy that Nike makes them/owns them nowadays, but still good shoes.

Love my new 70s. These and my denim version are my fav right now. Got lucky finding the only 10.5 pair online on sale

How does one tell if a pair of converse are "70s"? I usually shop for shoes at like Ross or tj maxx, so I never see boxes or rarely tags. I was wondering if they have distinguishable characteristics.

The first way you will be able to tell is by the price tag.  The 70's are about 20-30 dollars more than the regular chucks IIRC.  Secondly, you'll be able to tell when you pick them up and inspect them…it's like night and day when comparing the 70's to the regular Chucks.  The 70's are made with better materials overall. Eyelets, laces, canvas, sole, etc....everything is higher quality and beefed up.  The soles are thicker on the 70's as well which makes them much more comfortable.

There are definitely distinguishable characteristics.  I guess the best way I can explain it is the regular Chucks would be a 14oz pair of lower end/mid range selvedge denim and the 70's would be a pair of IH 21oz denim.

Also...I believe the 70's are only sold online.  It's the only place I've found them anyways.

Slightly higher rubber wall, Black label back heel, the extra stitching where the material is near the rubber to and full rubber sole. Def a better shoe than the reg Chuck Taylor.

I actually live the blue denim so much I just got in two more pairs for once this pair dies. Haha
