In case some were unaware, it might be worth noting that there were different judging panels for ROW and SEA.

    Has it been explained why?

@Alex Not that I can remember seeing, no. But it may well have been explained somewhere unbeknownst to me.

(The official rulebook goes into the different conferences, which is new for Y4, but doesn't mention different judging panels that I can see, apart from the following: "The Southeast Asian Top 50 will be selected by long-time friend of the competition Mifflin Mabalot".

In fact, based on the wording in the rulebook I'd expect there to be just one judging panel.
"...the same judging panel...", "...a panel of judges...", "...the judging panel".

Anyway, that's delving deeper into this than I care to 😆

Overall I had a very positive experience with the whole thing, but was quite surprised to see the top 3 for ROW).

          @hjl360 🤔

Depending on details, I'd probably be down.

@JunkPants I have no dog in this fight, but to me it makes sense to have consistent judges in all divisions. So the SEA judges prefer high contrast fades, and the ROW prefer low contrast fades, for eg, then you're all shooting for different goals without really knowing it.

Again, has nothing to do with me, but that is what I would be suggesting if I were you guys

I mean, is there evidence of corruption? Or just evidence that there have been different judges, judging things differently?

And out of interest, what hypothetical gain is there for the organisers to be corrupt? Seems like a bit of a stretch, I have to say

                  Maybe bias and not corruption.
I agree the rules should be clearly defined and should be the same panel throughout or at least have the same standards they’re judging everyone on.

@Alex - the system is not corrupt. Ultimately, whatever competition you have it will come down to subjective opinions. We may all say ‘I can’t believe that they chose that’ but that’s what you get with such contests. However, I must say that the different judging panels and the slightly ‘odd’ results does raise the question for future invitationals: why bother?

@Alex - we are in violent agreement. But even with subjectivity comes an element of ‘really’?

Yeah corruption is probably a bit extreme haha. I agree inconsistency across the regions seems more so the issue

                                  Regions is the issue.

One of the conversations with Bryan, I had was in hot country on holiday in Morocco. Did an experience with ocean and sea soak.

How the hottest area affect the jeans. React differently.

I clearly said no change people from cold weather stand a chance. He knew deep down about this

Fade difference can be seen. They have the upper chance with best looking fades
                                  Which is very unfair.
If they fade like me and James working your arse off they know about it.

He was meant to break it up. Pick the winners that’s way round it up. God knows what he done.

He gave James a ring in the end, the amount of shit I gave him.

The message he drop middle of the conversation was what do want me do, nothing can be done. Kinda piss me of more so kept digging at him. He deserves it.

                                  All nonsense.
                                  James heard it all.
                                  That’s why he a Champion. 🏆 @Jcaz6996

Could hardly believe it when I saw the top 3 for ROW.

First and second place for ROW were wildcards. For an event like this I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have judges whose aesthetic sense is at odds with the community.

This is the part that irks me the most - why even bother with a voting round when ultimately the community’s voice is overridden by the judges? To me this really taints the results as it feels like the winners were almost forced onto the podium for some reason.

I would honestly like to see judging end at the initial down-select, then have it all democratised and decided by those who put in the time and effort to cross the finish line. I think it would be awesome to have a playoff bracket where the judges’ top 50 gets thinned out and seeded into a bracket based on votes. Then there would be subsequent voting rounds to decided who advances. The championship could be the “ROW conference” winner vs the “SEA conference” winner. Maybe I’ve had too much tequila and am a little too excited for the Eagles game tomorrow, but I think I might be on to something….🤣🤪

To be clear I'm joking/exaggerating here. I actually think the Indigo Invitational is great, and am looking forward to joining again for Y5. I'm also too slow of a fader to ever be in the running for a top spot, so I have no disappointments related to my own placing.

That said, it seems clear to me that they've yet to perfect the voting/judging system. And I can definitely see how the results may sour some people on the whole thing.

Figuring out a way to have it be more democratised as you say seems like a good idea to me.

This should in fact be happening! From the Y4 Rulebook:
                                      • First place finishers from each conference will go head-to-head to determine our overall winner.

Yeah, I’m right there with you - I had no illusions that I had a shot at winning. I am mainly upset with the process and pissed that other contestants in this forum who IMO had more impressive fades AND were voted into the top 16 got the shaft. That said, I already have my Y5 pair 🤣

That will be…interesting. I wonder which judges get to decide that?

This should in fact be happening! From the Y4 Rulebook:
                                          • First place finishers from each conference will go head-to-head to determine our overall winner.

That will be…interesting. I wonder which judges get to decide that?

I would assume it would be all the judges, but who knows.
