@JoshC Judging from those pictures, you are off to a great/outstanding start… 🙂

Hey @goosehd, Thanks for shooting those photos across. These are perfect. It's so I can see the area of damage to see what I am working with; these are also repairable.

For the cuffs: I would be more likely to recommend darn over the top of these as it will help to reinforce the area and help it stop from ripping further. It is possible to shorten these, but it depends on how much length you want to lose, as it will either have to be under the area of damage or above it. What we need to keep in mind is when we hem jeans, we need an inch extra to create a fold into the denim to put them through the union special to get them rehemmed.

Out of interest, when you wash your jeans, do you keep the folds/turn-ups in?

Crotch: easy little fix-up. There won't be a problem.

@Chesson is good, and it would be good to see him on the machine again in the future.

I turn my jeans inside out, unroll the cuffs, and pre soak in a tub before I wash them in the machine.  Cold water, low/no spin and air dry.

Great news about the crotch…it didn't look bad, but rather stay on top of it, then let it go too far.

How much length would you lose if you chopped them?  Is it easier to shorten them (better repair), or darn them?  Do you add a patch because it's a high wear area or just darn?

Sorry for all of the questions...

Thread is off to a great start. Stellar work - I kind of want to blow-out the crotch in my jeans now just to get them repaired…

A quick Q if I may, my trusty 888s-21s are just starting to fray along the inseam at the crotch, similar to that which can be seen in the below images but less frayed. Should I worry about it? I note you don't seem to have repaired the fraying so I suspect not...?

Hey @EdH, Thanks man! Haha, you say that now but you'll miss wearing them whilst they're getting repaired ;).

I remember for this pair, I didn't need to darn over them as the fraying looked bad, but the time I actually trimmed it all up after fixing the crotch, it was fine. However, this being said, if you put your finger underneath the fabric and between the inseam, if you can see your finger, I would say it's worth getting them fixed up. If you can't, then it should be fine.

Feel free to shoot some images on here 🙂

As you can see, it's just the fold of the inseam which is starting to fray. Nowhere near being able to see a finger, so I guess I can wait. I just didn't want it to become a thing.  😉

@goosehd Perfect! always better to unroll them otherwise this can sometimes happen quicker with the water sitting in the crease/turn-ups.

Yeah with yours it's not a big hole but as they will be coming in it's well worth getting them done before it gets bigger!

It all depends on the length you need, but you will lose an inch from the cut line because of the 2 half-inch folds so if we cut them at 30" they will be 29" once they've gone through the hemming machine as long as the area isn't damaged.

I can do a patch underneath but what you will find is when you go to put your turn-ups in you may have a piece of a patch potentially on show.

We recently received these well-worn battered pairs of IHXB01-Beatle Buster 21oz for the ReLove program. These bad boys will be the first two pairs of jeans on our denim bunting for the repair room. I think these look awesome. It's a shame they are unrepairable as they have ripped away from the seams on the crotch.
