IH-101J-SR - 18oz Selvedge Denim Storm Rider Jacket - Indigo
-
@indigo_fades Not sure where you are but I'm in Belgium, so a weather very much like England I would say, maybe slightly less rainy, but probably less cold overall in the winter, especially these last years.
Still I can wear this a lot. It's warmer than a non-lined jacket, sure, but it's not that warm either imo. Sleves are quilted, so this is less warm than the wool body.
Off course it can be a "winter" jacket if you layer this like a motherfucker, but I use it with T's and sweat during fall/begin winter, and also very early spring, and it's just right.I would range this comfortable between 18C until 5C (with a warmer pull/UHF). Just my 2 cents
Great piece Richard, mine is still very new

@Richard That's the craziest thing - I was just looking at this jacket and a chambray bomber that I'd never seen before on eBay this morning. I love it, but I don't think it's cold enough to justify buying where I live. Such a great IH piece to own though. Yours looks sick!
Agreed with the dude above me.
It’s warmer than an unlined jacket but not by a whole lot. It was 10c here yesterday in Germany and I wore it over an IHTL-1501 very comfortably. I see it as sitting perfectly in-between my type-3’s and my N1’s.
-
@Slash I appreciate the feedback! Unfortunately, even my unlined jackets only get about 4 months of wear per year. It's mid-October and still 85⁰ (30⁰c) here this week on the southern coast of North Carolina. I'd love to have a reason to buy a lined jacket, but it would legitimately be a Jan & Feb exclusive. I don't plan to live at the beach forever though, so this one stays on my list!

Just random also, but I did receive a email from Lee for their new collection, and although I don't buy there anymore, I always look at their "101" collection, which is their "Japanese Made".
Prices from this collection really had been inflating since the 2 last years, but now I think they really lost their mind

Their Storm Rider goes for 700€ !!
I cannot say for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's not a competition at all with IH quality, and now with this price, IH looks like an absolute steal, and like a last beacon of rationality in this denim world. Really hope for them that IH finds solutions for their production, because if they do, I think they would be placed very aggressively price/quality wise.
I've a dry/raw denim jacket from Lee from their 101 collection, that goes now for 400€ (it was 250€ before), but when I have this besides my 14oz IB from IH, the quality from IH feels sooooo much better, so I can only imagine how this Lee Storm Rider would suffer the comparison with IH.
Long story short, long live IH

@Slash This. So much this.
I mean I am so glad I found IH and maybe some very few other brands that are actually quality. -
@Snafu it's a great jacket, but I can't wear it in the English winter. It's not warm enough. It's best in spring and fall, and under a puffer jacket in winter.
-
@Richard I’ve always been curious how warm these wear. What are those temps like in spring/autumn? Texas winters get chilly but I imagine a storm ride would be perfect out here.

Sorry, man. Just saw this. I can wear the jacket in English temperatures of 8 to 15C. Under or over that I don't unless I layer. If it's hitting over 15C, no. That might be just me. I'm adverse to cold.
-
@Richard Thank you for your reply. It never gets below 8c here in Texas. 15c is an average nice winter day. Seems like a perfect jacket for this climate over the winter. I mean I guess it was originally designed for American ranchers hahaha
-
@Danimal506 depends on your activity level. If i was shoveling snow, then I could wear it over an UHF down in the 30’s. However if on the bleachers watching football in the 40’s I’d be cold.

Old pic but one of my faves of this jacket
-
@Anesthetist Nice pic out in the snow.
-
@Anesthetist Looks like a lot of fun! I miss playing in the snow. That’s about it haha
My local winter temps range from around 40-70, so I think this jacket is a really great option for me down the line. I’d go tshirt and stormrider, maybe a thermal for extra warmth. Any colder and I have a parka from when I lived in Chicago.
