@Giles Just out of curiosity, how many are still standing/open for business?

When I reached legal drinking age (23 years ago) my home town of Mexborough In South Yorkshire had around 27 pubs which has dwindled down to 8 or 9 in the time that’s passed.

I'm going to say 15. But Gosport looks nothing like this anymore anyway as swathes of it was destroyed in the war, just about everything north of north street is new, so that takes out 1-19 and everything south of south street has gone too, so that takes out 42-57

The interesting thing is, you see this all over the US. A lot of it comes down to personal choices and how you want to live your life. Hell, it’s a constant struggle with all my kids just to get them to eat something healthy instead of whatever is quick and easy. That being said, there are certainly places where access to healthy food is genuinely limited, and that’s a whole different issue.

I had an argument with a social worker who used to be on the forum quite a lot. He said that his "clients" could not afford to cook at home as it was cheaper to eat fast food. I said that was complete bollocks. What does a meal for 4 cost at McDonalds? £30? I can cook a very healthy meal for 4 for way less than a fiver.....

What pissed me off most about the discussion was that he was effectively supporting/promulgating an unhealthy lifestyle, rather than explaining that there are other ways. Surely, his job is to try and make things better, not lie over and have his tummy tickled.....

they’ve never met my mom, four kids a husband and I guarantee she probably never spent more than $10 on a home cooked dinner and that is on the high end… but always a vegetable, a starch and some protein, but usually light on the protein lol
