@Giles said in Random Rants:
Continuing one of my life themes. Do NOT go to a restaurant that is on a top 10 list, do NOT go to a town that is on a top 10 list, and do NOT go to a country that is on a top 10 list. By the time they've made the list, it's too fucking late.......

I rest my case.....
I would rather have 4000 Volts put through my testicles that set foot on that beach.....

I really hate those lists espescially if there is something on them I love to got to. But the worst thing are traval influencer in Japan "The secret hidden restaurant only locals know" means forget it, it will be full of tourists of the most terrible sort running around taking videos (!) with their phones, if they could they would let their drones fly in there...

People clogging up topic threads with the same “would be better if…” takes over and over just turns everything into noise. If you don’t like it, cool. Not everything needs a full redesign in the comments.
And I say this with all due respect, there’s plenty of IH stuff that isn’t for me. That doesn’t make it bad, it just means it’s not my style. But I’m not jumping into every thread to announce it or explain how I’d change it.
All that constant commentary starts to feel less like feedback and more like “look at me” stuff. Say your piece once and move on. Not everything needs a running critique.
*** Sorry everybody I think this is better than me jumping into a topic and going nuclear

It helps if you remember that “comments” are one of the worst features of any website. They are dark places where people express stupid opinions. The forum is only comments so if you go into it with low expectations and accept that there will be a fair amount of stupid from time to time then it becomes easier to stomach. I just ignore it mostly now. The number of threads I’ve put on ignore status far outweighs the number of threads I actually look at.

@northsouthdenimguy Thank you
-
@northsouthdenimguy that thread was annoying the hell out of me too.
-
@Giles I say no as it would look like we are trying to silence people’s concerns. One of the things that has always impressed me with the forum is that the opportunity is there to have these kind of discussions.
What other brand allows customers to have discussions and input into the designs of products such as this?
Quite frankly we should all be grateful that we have that opportunity…

I agree, as much as those comments annoy me, it’s probably better to leave them for a number of reasons. One upside is you get to see Giles’ responses, which are usually(always) worth it.
-
Would be cool if there was some way for the forum to detect what someone is about to reply, and suggest a link to a response about it, i.e. once you type misaligned or placket on that thread then it provides a link to the first place it was answered by IH staff before letting you post your reply.
Probably still wouldn't stop anything though

-
@Ikeaparty funnily enough, that’s how I use the search feature of the forum. Many times, it’s the first thing I do before I answer a question. I’ve also used it before when wanting to suggest a new item to be made, when is an item due to be restocked, etc.
It’s a powerful tool when used, albeit a bit quirky.

I gotta ask, which thread are we talking about? Enquiring minds want to know

-
@Denman-John purple thread
-
No wonder, it’s purple

Absolutely unrelated to anything I've read here, I'd like to share a funny story that I've experienced working retail in a brick and mortar selling outdoor equipment.
Customer comes in and asks for a very specific water purifying device we did not carry. We had however many (from my point of view superior) options that took me a long time to lay out in front of the customer. All options were for one reason or another rejected. I then called our suppliers if there was the off chance to get the device, so that I could sell that one unit we did't regularly carry to the customer. Unfortunately the item was not available for us. All I could do was to thank the costumer for trying to shop with us before shopping on Amazon.
The customer, however, was outraged that a reputable brick and mortar did not carry such an item. After apologising for the sake of politeness, she demanded that I ordered the Item from my personal Amazon account and then sell it over our counter.
I took a break a had a cup of tea.
Actual rant:
My wife's employer just told her and all the other workforce that they won't be paying them for the foreseeable future, in fact they don't know if they'll ever be able to
As of now, she's worked the last four weeks without pay as it turns out. I should probably postpone my plans to buy any nice Good Art in the new future... -
@RobeOfTheMagi. Let me get this straight. Your wife's employer said that he cannot pay the employees but he has no problem working them? Twilight zone for sure right there. I am pretty sure that is illegal in the US.
