I am back again, for my yearly check-in on this thread ✍

I have been wearing a pair of lady 106's from ebay 5/7 days of the week. I have never enjoyed a pair of pants this much! I think it's time to double up.

I'm wondering why my pants seem to have skipped the high contrast cobalt phase between washes. I've washed them by machine x4 now, but its seemed really really really warranted, living in a city and getting the public grime on me all the time. It seems like my pants are headed towards lightwash, fast. What gives? I wonder if it's got anything to do with living in Germany, the calcium in the water... but what would be the way to get those electric blues?

I am really tempted to double up on these jeans, since they work so well for me. It seems like the only ones sub $100 I can find are one size down (28-->27) How drastic is this step? If the jeans were only a bit more snug, I think it could work out. So, testimonies appreciated.

One last thing.... With black jeans... I'm worried about the fading getting crazy in the crotch... Any solutions here?

I think it all comes up to fit and what you actually do in your jeans. The hight contrast fades you usually get on creases, whiskers, combs and other smaller areas that are frequently getting rubbed on or any sort of friction. If the fit is more lose, you will probably get a more even fading in larger areas, which makes it appear less high contrast.
However, German water can’t be the reason, since I have lived here all my life and all my denim have high contrast fades. 😁
I wear slimmer fits, so this might be beneficial for high contrast fadings.
For the black denim, or‘s als about the fit. There is no general hack to prevent it from fading excessively compared to other parts of the jeans. A looser fight might be an advantage in this case. You can opt for non-fading superblack denim to be extra safe.

@don_pipone Thanks for your quick response. Lets go Deutschland : )
Its a pretty sweeping question, but have you worn lots of IH and found that the difference in neighboring sizes is more about 'fit' as in style than a determining factor? Obviously, it would be both, but I wonder if there's more room to 'sizing down' than in other kinds of clothes... I hope you can understand what I mean, though it's a bit silly. Cheers

I think I now what you mean. It might depends on the cut and general style you are going for. If you generally wear more lose cuts sizing down would obviously be more of an option. However, I think mainly the waist is the limiting factor for this.
I have had many different IH pairs and cuts over the years but all of them more on the slimish side. Every time I tried sizing down it didn‘t work. Even if the waist still worked, other areas were just too tight and uncomfortable. Those areas such as thighs and knees just won‘t stretch as much with wear to make it wearable in the long run. IH is so different from „regular“ jeans. Even the lighter fabrics (14oz) are very rigid and less forgiving to make a too tight fit work.

Achso, good to know. I thought I could get away with something because I could definitely go with losing an inch in the waist, but it's true that I can't afford for my knees to get so much tighter. I was hoping it wouldn't be the case, because I feel like the sizes available are so much more specific and incremental than other brands, for example there are plenty of brands which only carry every other size, which makes things more drastic. Guess I will just have to wait for something else to come up on the market.

@mitzimeow IH jeans are handmade, meaning no pair is alike and measurements might differ in certain areas to make a different size still work for you. If it was an extant model still available regularly at IH you can always ask the IH crew to check for a specific pair that might suits your specific needs/measurements. Going second hand is always a gamble. You could still ask the seller to measure the pair tho.

@mitzimeow. I am assuming your jeans are the 21oz and I say assuming because the 106 is unfamiliar to me. If thats the case the 21oz is not known for fading with high contrast.. Thats is more 25oz, UHR or 19L territory. In addition if you are washing in often it will naturally fade more uniformly.

@yannis The 106 was a ladies 21OZ Bootcut Jean. It came right up when I searched for it. The thread dated back to 2010. Even before my time. I would think that they’re pretty rare.
