It’s more the philosophical component that gets me. I have always been a collector of things. I get great joy from owning them, but I also really like the hit of dopamine brought on by coveting something new, desiring it, pulling the trigger, and then the rush of when it arrives. But, like many, after that hit, then I’m seeking the next. Addictive behavior, for sure.
But—I’d like to live my life differently. I think the rampant consumerism of well-to-do folks like myself is the primary driver of environmental and societal degradation.
I believe this—but I’m also lazy and when it comes to making lifestyle changes or depriving myself of anything….usually a non-starter.
I suppose that type of dismissive and cynical judgement is just giving myself permission to continue my behavior without truly engaging with trying to change.
I know I’m not the only one.

@sabergirl I envy minimalists, it's a lifestyle I wish I could live... I guess I'm always chasing the new thing, gotta be happy with what you have sometimes

@sabergirl
My mindset switched when I started asking myself if I liked something because everyone else did, or if it's something I would've loved if I happened upon it by myself in the sale section of a crappy store....and as I type this, I put a Type 10 bracelet in my cart for the 100th time.
