As there doesn’t seem to be much intel on Kornog here, I guess it’s my public duty to order a bottle and report back. Watch this space!

@SourPower it should arrive later this week with something else (a repeat buy from Kyrö). Overall the reduction over the two bottles was about 27% of the normal price, so I’m feeling quite happy.

Those philistines should be discarding the lemon peel after expressing it over the drink but at least they didn’t submerge it in the beverage 🤣

Peychaud originally made them with cognac, but a blight on cognac grapes forced a shift to Maryland rye by Thomas Handy who bought Peychaud’s operation. The nonsensical, politically motivated prohibition of wormwood pastis led to Herbsaint replacing absinthe. All this to say, you no longer have to use Herbsaint, and it’s interesting to try a cognac variant, specifically using Pierre Ferrand 1840, to see how the cocktail would have tasted in its original form. And unbeknownst to most the OG recipe included some Angostura in addition to the Peychaud’s.

My favorite cocktail and I usually make mine with Rittenhouse, though the best I’ve had was with Thomas Handy.

New Years tends to be one of the less enjoyable days as a dog owner in Berlin. Usually we try to get away from it all but it didn't pan out this year, so I spent the night comforting our dog, most of the time on the bathroom floor as it's the only room two walls removed from the nearest window and so the quietest. I had a wee tipple of this rum though. Independent bottling of DDL juice. Distilled on the Port Mourant still, one of the two last remaining wooden stills in the world (both residing at DDL). 100% pot still, no added sugar, 10 years continental aged. And a hefty 58%abv.

@SourPower they should be easy enough to find, DDL is the last operational Guyanese distillery. They bought up most of the equipment of other Guyanese distilleries as they went out of business, so they have a vast number of stills. Their flag ship marque is El Dorado but they are also in the market under a bunch of other names. But really independent bottlers is where it's at. They tend to be more affordable and have a few more years of age.
