IHM-47-ODG - 12oz Whipcord Tanker Jacket - Olive Drab Green
Inspired by the jackets issued to US servicemen in the 1940s, our fall/winter ’25 tanker jacket is designed to offer authentic military style for year-round layering. Unlike many of our “jungle cloth” fabrics, this 12oz whipcord is woven using sulphur-dyed yarns, meaning that over time, the jacket will fade and wear with vintage charm to complement the WWII-era cut. Of course, as with all our military jackets, this isn’t a strict reproduction piece, and we’ve given the classic design a typical Iron Heart overhaul.
Along with the tough whipcord outer shell, we’ve added a weather-resistant Japanese Ventile lining for a layer of protection against wind and rain, while remaining lightweight and highly breathable. Further upgrades include a two-way main zipper, an internal wind-blocking placket, and a hybrid knit hem and cuffs. This intricate hybrid knit technique allows the cuffs and hem to naturally fold, achieving the optimum fit while maintaining a windproof seal. Finished with external handwarmer patch pockets and a snap-fastening internal pocket for secure storage of a phone or wallet.

Your designers did a great job modernizing and lightening the substantial bulk of the WWII winter combat jacket — it looks fantastic, and it appears like it'll age beautifully. Well done!

@MarkFlores61 Thank you!

@ShopatIronHeart Hello to the stubborn crew

I know you probably still only have the sample of this one, but I had a couple of questions you could maybe answer:
-
If you tested it, what can men expect of the Ventile lining ? Will I stay dry under a light/medium rain (except for cuffs/collar that would get pretty wet I suppose)
-
In terms of warmth, how would you rate this ? Let's say against IH-101J-SR, but if you have a better comparison, shoot.
Thx !

@Freeman Thanks for the info man
is all I wanted to know

I guess the main difference to what someone might call a bomber is that a tanker has the collar that zips all the way up?
I like that because it makes the piece more versatile since it might provide a little more wind protection. However since it is a lightweight jacket I wonder how thin the ribbed collar is.
The pockets look great. Reminds me of Freenote Mariner jackets.
Have to wait and see. Could be quite versatile if you have room to layer and if its not too short. -
@Northman Yes, I like the collar too, especially in the fall when it's cool in the morning. You can zip it up to protect your neck. Tanker and bomber jackets are simply cool, especially since they're short, allowing you to show off your jeans. A T-shirt or sweatshirt underneath and you look perfect.

Looking forward to the measurements dropping on these. I remember Alex mentioning in the FW25 drop video that they would be looking into increasing the length a little bit.
I mean ofc its meant to be a short jacket but it would be awesome as long as it's not uber short. -

@Northman I learned the hard way the body length matters more than just aesthetically for me. Not an expensive lesson thanks to eBay. I got the duck flight jacket(fw24) there in XXL. I really had to strain in order to get my hands in the hand warmer pockets. It was physically uncomfortable
. I've set a very inflexible body length limit of 27" minimum for anything with hand warmer pockets
-
If the length is going to be the same as it is now on the Japanese online store then I should be okay.
-
@Northman I too am hopeful after browsing over to IHJ. Thanks for the idea. May have to size up one to get the length but that's not a deal breaker for cold weather piece.
-
@Tago-Mago Thanks for clarifying. I suspected something like that. Very important information!
-
@Tago-Mago more of a ballpark figure if anything for me. Not Iron clad. Thanks for the info though
-
@ShopatIronHeart, I may be asking too early, but are you guys taking your (usual) light outerwear sizes in this? Or going down one? Thank you!
-
@Buckeye Hi! The general consensus from trying this on, is that we are taking our usual "IHM" sizing, in that I typically take one size down from my usual UHF/Type III sizing.
Due to the cuffing/ribbing on the opening and wrists, you may be able to take your usual jacket sizing dependant on how you intend to layer.
