Dude what are you waiting for?!
-
@Oaktavia I’ve got the Indigo Invitational coming up in a pair of IGW-101B, and then I’ve got an embarrassingly large pile of brand new pairs of XHS, XHSIB, XHSBB, XHSMB, 19L, Samurai 25OZ etc. to get through.
The time for UHR will come though!
-
@JunkPants that makes a lot of sense as to why. One day!
-
@Oaktavia what makes you move on to another pair?
-
@Oaktavia One day indeed! With IH you never run out of great things to try.

@SKT are you referring to this?

@freepickin I originally was going to go for two years straight. At this point I do not think that is necessary. Especially with the UHR. I knew it faded fast, but wow, this pair looks more faded than my regular XHS that has 100+ more wears. Plus, I have a pair of near mint Loombreakers I am super eager to wear. So I am thinking I will finish out 2025 wearing these and likely start with the LB in 2026. Might replace the UHR with those and keep wearing the XHSib. Not totally sure yet.
If so, I was just throwing the idea around about not completing two years straight in the UHR. I am not totally committed to that reassessment quite yet though. 2026 is still four months away which will allow a fair amount of wear to put into the UHR either way. Those Loom Breakers are calling me loudly and they are hard to resist...

I have been wearing these daily since the first of the year. Going on ice now while I work on a pair of 888 19L for the Indigo Invitational.

@Oaktavia I think I was wondering more if you have an ideal visual you are going for or just a specific time commitment like the 2 year goal you mentioned. Which of those two factors weighs more in your decision?
My ideal visual for a level of fading before I move to a new pair is all electric blues turn to to nearly white in well worn areas. The time commitment prediction is becoming less reliable and relavant because each denim fades at different rates. I am not always correct in how long I guess it will take to get my fades to where I can move to the next pair.
My ultimate goal is to fade all of my IH denim to a certain degree that satisfies me. Eventually, I will begin a rotation of all the jeans I have faded to that point. My long term goal is to one day stop fading one pair at a time at lightning speed (every day or every other day of consistent and fully commited wear) and be able to slowly fade and enjoy all of my pants at the same rate. But the more I carry on, the more pants I add to my pile to fade that have not been worn yet. So perhaps my five year denim plan will provide enough time for me to do that. I dream of being able to wear all of my well worn jeans in a rotation. Each time I buy a new one, it pair pushes this idea further away. Does this make sense? And I've just added
twothree
️ more to my pile just this month.

@Oaktavia yes this makes sense and thanks for the thoughtful explanation. When I got into IH I spent a lot of time researching denim on the forum (like a lot of us) and have always remembered something Giles wrote in the 18oz Vintage thread…something along the lines of ‘I’d like to wear these until they disintegrate but I don’t have the patience’ I think we all have a limit or goal and then get excited to try something new. IH makes it easy too because they have so many interesting offerings. I do love to see the rare pair that has been completely thrashed and is almost beyond its wearability. That doesn’t happen very often though because all of Iron Heart’s denim is so well made.
