Just seeing this thread. I recommend Sfumato, which I've been wearing for a long time. They have a number of good fragrances at a decent price point. I would start with the sampler packs and go from there. They are a small company based in Detroit and have a cocktail / fragrance workshop in the house they work out of. https://sfumatofragrances.com/

Been collecting fragrances, attar and oils since only God knows when. Because both of my parents are as well. And now even have my own brand. It’s Hausser. So I wear my brand’s perfume a lot. Especially the one that’s not released yet because I need to do some RnD ✌️

@aetherist that is quite the collection! How do you make sure they don't spoil? I always assumed fragrances has a shelf life of just a few years before they degrade.

I recently picked up a little sampler kit from Comme Des Garcons. Man 2, Wonderwood, and Blackpepper were definitely the stand outs to me.

I have about 400+ fragrances of designer, niche, artisans, oils and attars in total and this is just a drawer next to my bed actually. Consist of my own brand’s products, some rnds or something that my dearest one gave to me.
And about your question, as someone that’s been collecting fragrances for almost 2 decades, there’s no such thing as expired, my brother. It’s all just about how you store and keep them good or not. I have lots of vintage fragrance from most of the big designer houses from 1960-1980 and they’re still fabulous. And for the true collector, the price and value have increased significantly.

Still very much backing that $20 Nemat "Amber" roll on that is $20 at Ulta. It's my daily driver. Very subtle and I literally don't smell it anymore when I put it on, but always get comploments on it.

Also still love Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, which I'm excited to bring back out with my fall wardrobe.

Still love Maison Margiela "By the Fireplace" but we used up our small sample bottle and bought a huge knock off online and CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE. Like, a lifetime supply for 1/10 of the price.

My wife recently got into Tom Ford "Ombre Leather" and I bought her a small sprayer of it a couple months back. I love it, but it's definitely a spray on my shirt or jacket the night before kind of thing. At least to my nose. I LOVE the smell, but it is strong right off the bat.

This is a fun thread. I’m a total fragrance nut and have a shitload of stuff, but I’m super picky. Anything aquatic or with that sort of base that all of the “mall-y” colognes tend to have (ambroxan?) makes me wanna take ten showers, but anything kind of woody, herbal, and out of the ordinary usually grabs my attention. Always have loved CDG (Wonderwood and Monocle Hinoki especially), and other faves are La Curie, DS & Durga, Slumberhouse, and Kerosene, off the top of my head. And Blackbird out of Seattle has always been a huge go-to for me. Lately pretty in love with their Moto Oud.

Yeap. Fragrantica’s being used as a “basic” knowledge if someone needs or want to buy something. Pretty useful actually. Even for some of the listing notes and spl is not really true. But it doesn’t mean that it is complete trash. My brand’s also got listed on there. ✌️

You should try Amouage - Interlude if you haven’t, Matt. You will love it.

My wife is super into fragrances, and recently got me into them with this Aesop one. I picked out this Imaginary Authors scent, at ministry of scent on Valencia street(few blocks up from self edge). still much to learn but I’m liking the more subtle scents. She’s really into nice candles as well and of course I am now too. Didn’t get the $80 or higher candles for awhile but it’s makes world of difference

@SKT Their "anti perfumes" are pretty wild. I always get a kick out of the notes they use to describe them. That looks like the type of fragrance William 'D-Fens' Foster would wear. I think I recall another one that used burning rubber and kerosene as a description.

@SKT I think I've smelled that CDG one before (I might even still have a sample of it) and I don't remember it smelling as unhinged as the description sounds. I think it was more just kind of industrial and graphite-y smelling. Maybe like a print shop. With a lot of those wild ones they make, I'd never buy a full bottle but I still enjoy picking up a sample to try. Places like Luckyscent and Indiescents are great for that — they cost usually like 4 to 5 bucks a piece and you can try a bunch of stuff. Plus since most of them are kinda dabbed on vs spray samples, they tend to last quite a while. Good bang for buck.

While CDG does do the wild stuff, I think they really excel at doing more straightforward things. Wonderwood is really great, and their Incense series is fantastic. Each is sort of one-note (really just a depiction of a kind of incense), but they smell so good. I'm particularly fond of Avignon, which makes you smell like an old church (my inner goth is like "yes, I'll have that") and Kyoto, which is a really nice, clean, soapy sort of sandalwood.
