@SKT George was actually the one modeled off LD.
But I do enjoy CiCGC very much.
-
@SKT love Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. I’ve seen every episode a few times I’d say. It’s almost like a comedians podcast but way better as they are blending lots of cool ideas like cars and comedy history as well as touring local cities.
Jerry has always had a bit of superiority in his demeanor I think. Combine that with uber wealth and I suppose elitism isn’t hard to imagine. Though I do think his personality is more based on being comedian-centric only. Self admittedly that all he wants to talk with or be around. His boredom with non comedians can for sure come across as having an air of superiority.
-
@mclaincausey I know, I didn’t mean to imply otherwise. Can’t believe I typed “Comedians in THE Car Getting Coffee” Small typo explains why I’m not in comedy
-
@Mizmazzle yeah I love it too. The episode with John Hodgson where they pitch ketchup ads makes me laugh so hard. I should probably start them over I could use some laughs
-
Hate to say it but the literature backs me up: extreme wealth can be cancerous to decency. Some of his boomer takes make him look a fool. To say things like “you can’t do that kind of comedy anymore because woke” when he was the most inoffensive, milquetoast comic in history, almost like Bob Saget was in “Full House,” and shows like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” are doing unbelievably offensive things every episode…. Cmon dude.
-
@mclaincausey He really ran himself into a corner. He wants to be the anti-woke now, but most comedians in that sphere hate him because he spent his entire career as a clean comedian, to the point of sabotaging some comedians who weren't.
-
That I didn’t know about but it does somewhat reek of trying to establish “street cred” among comics.
I thought it was pretty icky that he was dating a 17 year old when he was 40 too.
ALL THAT SAID, “Seinfeld” remains probably my favorite sitcom and I do think he’s a terrific host on CiCGC. I just think there are thousands of comedians who are more funny and less vapid with their cultural insights.
-
@mclaincausey when we get into these discussions it always makes me think about how we can separate the art from the artist. I think Jerry even talks about it in one of the CICGC episodes…maybe talking about Cosby? I guess there are “degrees” of everything. Thinking more recently of the Cormac McCarthy situation. I remember at the time it came out that Jerry was dating the 17 year old it didn’t really cause a ripple for him…way different times now thankfully.
-
Norm was amazing
Edit: Jerry gets a lot of flack for being a clean comic, but he understands great comedy better than anybody else

George was actually the one modeled off LD.
Pretty sure I saw this on some bonus footage off one of the dvd season releases but they were reminiscing over a read where George had a ridiculous moment (even for Castanza standards) and the cast started picking apart the scene, questioning, “who would ever react in such a stupid manner” and Larry being at the reading got overly defensive, stating, “what do you mean??? this a perfectly reasonable reaction to the situation”. It was later pulled out of LD that he was in fact writing from personal experiences in regards to George
-
@flannel-slut this is funny cause they allude to this on both Seinfeld and the Larry David show.
-
Pearl Jam sucks.
-
I reread what I wrote before and I should have been more clear and said the show was a mirror of Larry and Jerry making up funny shit. I was trying to say that the show’s success and humor was equal parts Jerry and LD. And watching Curb Your Enthusiasm it becomes obvious real quick that LD is George.
@northsouthdenimguy Norm was so funny….one of the best episodes for sure

@chrisjohnnick I actually agree with this….
And to get back to the @Bridger initial unpopular opinion, these should never be worn with anything, especially IH (looking at you Jerry Seinfeld)
-
@SKT The official shoes of going Winnie the Pooh in a gym locker room.

Not excusing it, but and there are countless instances of celebrities especially in music being with girls. It is incredibly disturbing and I really don’t understand it. They even write songs celebrating it like “You’re Sixteen,” “She’s Only Seventeen,” “Jailbait,” etc. I think more than the biology my disconnect is the psychology. What the fuck would I talk about to a 16 year old? Well I can tell you because we have an 18 year old sitter. I talk to her about college because she’ll be there next year. I can think of so little common ground with your average teenager.
I like PJ ok but don’t listen to them much. Seen some good live shows. I appreciate their ethic. When grunge came out I hated them and preferred pretty much everyone else, especially the Melvins, Nirvana, Soundgarden… oh yeah I hated STP too. I don’t hate much these days, I just skip it
-
@chrisjohnnick no love for Pearl Jam but no hate either. Foo Fighters however used to drive me nuts
-
Ah man yeah I guess I spoke too soon. Foo Fighters do get under my skin a bit.
