@Buckeye Did not notice anything unusual on mine, but my wife did not like the smell.

Mine smelled/smells like leather. I like it. That said, my IHJ-64-BLK barely has a scent (chrome tanning vs ?)

Hello everyone!I've recently become the proud owner of this beauty. I'd like to ask the creators how this jacket is supposed to handle rain? I intend to wear it for many years and I'm not overly cautious with it, but this is my first high-end jacket and I don't want to ruin it by mishandling it. I'm not talking about tropical downpours, but rather an average rain shower. I've only been wearing it for two weeks and have already been caught in the rain three times, each time for about half an hour, after which the jacket dried on me. I haven't noticed any negative changes (aside from water marks that seem to start forming a patina), yet everything I read online insists that rain ruins leather jackets. I'm trying to figure out how true this statement is for myself.
P.S. I've been wearing leather shoes for many years, including veg-tan leather, and by drawing analogies, I also can't understand what it is about rain that would ruin a jacket but not shoes (with proper care, of course).

And just to keep the discussion going, here are a couple of unflattering photos from a terrible angle, taken a week apart))

This jacket is made for what you're looking to accomplish. Rain will be part of your patina project. Just make overly sure it dries fully. This is easy for me in Ohio where humidity is not a big issue. I still hang my jackets on the door after getting them really wet. Like my sweater in this picture. Sorry the best I could find quickly

Wearing it a lot in the rain will accelerate how quickly it might need to be conditioned, but you don’t need to condition a jacket very much anyway, multiple years rather than months.

I’ve worn mine in the rain several times with no issues. Conditioned it once. We’re talking light rain or intermittent rain - not a downpour. The first few stains and scuffs bothered me - but they’ve all faded.

Thank you very much for your responses! You've helped me confirm that all the stories about leather jackets getting ruined by rain are likely either about jackets of terrible quality or a complete lack of leather care skills.
@concretor - that's an amazing color! I think it's probably a nice tan, but I'll still ask - what did you use to condition it? Mustang Paste or something less specialized?

The colour will look different depending on the light from beige to orange tones. I used a thin coat of mustang paste but waited until the jacket had some significant wear. I had actually spilled some DEF fluid on the jacket, which prompted me to use it for some better protection.

Did this only run in the tan leather? Could of swore I saw this in black leather too 🤔
