Thought I’d share this playlist from an event I was at last night - Refractions was an interesting blend of classical and modern electronic music and contemporary dance - of course you don’t get the dance on Spotify! I honestly can’t say if I liked it or not but I was completely engaged throughout, so I guess it was good.

@Matt listening to this song transports me to a very specific time and place in my life. I love how music can do that.

I didn’t go to the same elementary school or middle school as all my high school classmates so I never really fit in. My HS friends were my friends from those earlier years. That said I did have some people in HS that I was close with.

I stumbled upon my graduating class FB page the other day (I don’t keep up with anyone from HS) and was stunned to learn of the shockingly large number of classmates that are dead. Including a lot of people from my friend group.

This has nothing to do with music, just the time and place much of my music takes me to.

@Matt that’s a pretty sobering picture. I only keep up with a couple of friends from high school and one of them had “The Head on the Door” on cassette and introduced me to The Cure. He was my first real friend when I moved to Texas from Missouri when I was 14. Music is what cemented our friendship and we still share playlists on Spotify

In my teens I took piano lessons for a few years, and I'm confident in saying that I'm one of very few people who never learned to play Für Elise on the piano. Why? Because I only wanted to learn piano to be able to play Blues and Boogie Woogie. Axel Zwingenberger was the main inspiration, great piano player from Hamburg and excellent live. He also played with Ben Waters, Charlie Watts and Dave Green as The ABC&D of Boogie Woogie

And there's so much great stuff to discover that will blow your mind. Doesn't matter if your 15 or 50

Just got turned on to this punk band from NJ called Chemical-X. Bunch of early 20 somethings playing jams that sound like they should be on a Fat Wreck or Punk-O-Rama comp from the 90's. Into it.
