On a somewhat related note, my wife doesn’t like my 888 21s because of the back pockets. She thinks they are too low on the butt and too prominent. She says I have a nice butt but you can’t tell when I wear them. I would say that, even before her comment, my least favorite thing about these amazing jeans is the placement and size of the back pockets.

But that’s just me, I’m sure. Definitely a fully utilitarian pocket design, especially being lined etc.

The only thing that might stop me from getting these is the knee measurement, just a little wide for me. Decisions decisions….

You've got to remember that IH is a bikers' brand. The pockets are deliberately placed out wide so that a rider can sit on their bike without whatever is in their pockets digging into their arse while still having access to the pockets.

Back pockets size is a function of tag size.so you would need to specify the tag size you are after.

@sophisto000 Hi, I have measured both Tag 36/38 in respects to the width of the top/bottom of the back pockets which are practically identical with the following measurements:

13cm (bottom), 15cm (top)

@tgaus, I hope this helps you a little bit. But I thought I would do a side-by-side photo for everyone so you can see what the 1955(left side) looks like against the 888(right side). I wear both in a tag 40, and these two styles are great for big-thighed guys. The 1955 definitely offers a little bit more room across the board, as the numbers don't make it seem like much, but there is a difference when you combine all those little differences. The 888s give you a slimmer silhouette without becoming the Michelin man, haha.

@JoshC those 1955s have me so hyped to cop a pair tomorrow. I have a meeting that ends right when they go live, so my co-workers will see me furiously getting on my phone to buy a pair.

As someone with big legs and a small waist, the 1955 really looks to be my goldilocks IH cut. The 888 is uncomfortably slim in the lower thigh while the 634 is doable, but the low rise isn't ideal as I tuck my shirts in regularly.

@KA56 Ahh, man, the 1955 could definitely be the Goldilocks pair for you, then! For me, there is definitely more room in that low thigh area compared to the 888s, so you should be good. Good luck, and I hope you manage to cop a pair!

@JoshC's pictures make this tempting for me. If the below is my stretched (3 weeks) 888s, would I be right to say I actually need a size 31 (based on Size Guide) to account for the 1" stretch?

Only one left in stock in my size but, as much as it pains me, I think I'm going to have to let it go on this occasion. I'm saving up for something else that's getting a restock soon and comes around a lot less frequently even than these hallowed 1955s.

I've got enough jeans needing wear and evo put into them in the meantime.
