This thread is for all of those that are obsessed with a good writing instrument, or a good notebook. Whatcha writing on and with these days?

I just recently dropped my well loved rOtring 600 pencil, and bent the tip (again). I fear if I try to bend it back again, this time it may break.

      IHSH-208-Indigo Kersey, L-XL
      IHSH-254-Grey Kersey, L-XL

I don't write that much by hand anymore, but I have a nice Montblanc Rollerball I received as a gift from a client years ago.
Also, I like the Fisher space pen cartridges a lot.

From an aesthetic point of view, I was looking at a Winback or a LGNDR pen, but I haven't made my mind up yet.

I have a Ghurka journal I love and use a ballpoint Montblanc with it. I use this mostly for scribbling notes in business settings.

I am a big fan of Hobonichi Techo for actual journaling though I don’t journal like I should.

          Think it, be it.

I have had the same issue with the 600 pencil, not helped by my preference for 0.5mm leads.

The solution I found was buying the Rotring 800 pencil that has the twist retract function.

Retracting the pencil nib into the body of the pencil is now second nature and can become one of these therapeutic habits.

The 800 has a very satisfying mechanical action. Highly recommended.

My other favourite piece of stationary is the Pilot Flexion 4 x colour way 0.5 mm pen.

Handy for colour coding work notes etc.

@mclaincausey I got one of those Hobonichi Techo notebooks last year for Christmas, and haven’t missed a day in it all year! Will definitely be getting another one of those for the start of the year again.

My go-to daily notebook these days have been the Maruman Mnemosyne books. I have both the A5 and B5 floating around, but prefer the smaller A5. I also have a bunch of the Apica CD15 notebooks that are lovely, it I just fill them up so quickly.

edit: I just noticed that you linked the items in your post, and from now on I think I am going to link to anything I am referencing!

@ddtrash the 800 is on my list to grab next. I love the 600, but the retractable feature would be lovely. Only hesitation is if it’s too much thicker than the 600? I have a rotring 3-in-1 that I love, but never find myself reaching for due to how thick it is.

                  cool thread!

I was way more into this before pandemic, but when I left the office and started working from home I stopped using all my fountain pens. They're all un-inked right now but maybe I'll get back into it. My favorite is easily the Lamy 2000 but I like them all for different reasons. Second favorite is probably that pilot stargazer.

My first nice pencil was the retractable tip rotring 800 I got in Leipzig a number of years back during a Weihnachtsmarkt visit. Probably the one I reach for most is either the 2mm 800 or the Graphgear.

I really enjoy fountain pens but haven’t bought anything too expensive because I’m a lefty — I do pretty well not smearing stuff around via “the hook,” but it still happens plenty. I’ve got a Lamy I like (I forget the model) and have enjoyed TWSBI Ecos due to the ease of filling.

My dad is a (now retired) landscape architect who used to recruit me to work for him during a couple summers doing drafting. I’ll always be sentimental about the mechanical pencils he used — the Pentel Sharp. I always keep a stock of the blue 0.7 ones on hand, great for doodling and writing.

@chrisjohnnick I think both the 600 and 800 are the same diameter. I will check and let you know. The photo that @pechelman posted with the 600 and 800 together shows them to be pretty similar if not the same diameter.

I’m a ballpoint guy myself. Tried fountain pens, but couldn’t get into them. I do appreciate the art of fountain pen handwriting though.

As for notebooks, I like a simple Moleskine.

It’s barely noticeable now after 30 years but did lead to the school banning fountain pens at least for a few students

My main pencils are the rOtring 600 (which I think I'm going to grab the 800 this week), or Blackwing 602's or Palomino's. Also, since I have nobody else to talk with about this, the SumoGrip erasers are my favs (always have one on my desk or in my bag) and I love this pencil sharpener by T'gaal.
