Then look at the other side of the fabric and make sure your next stitch is very close to the last one, and 9 times out of 10 you'll come out the other side where you wanted to. (Don't push your needle all the way through until you've checked where you're coming out.) Longer stitches and you'll end up with a cut-corners look on all those curves.

All said, I think it took me ~4-5 hours to do the Octopus by hand, so stick on a sitcom or something and settle in! (I had Always Sunny on.)

If you're interested, I used Gutermann thread with colour code CA 02776 (I had a lady at the hobby store pick it out for me as I'm a bit colour blind).
