Boarding a plane to Tokyo from London Heathrow. I was in the queue for priority boarding (I am BA Gold card holder, and may even have been travelling business class). I got tapped on the shoulder and turned around, to be told (not so) politely by a besuited American, (looked like a lawyer) that I was in the wrong queue, it was for priority passengers only. I am not sure he could read my boarding pass because I thrust it so close to his face, but I think he got the message, and I did not have to say a thing....

Flying is a necessary indignity. I enjoy the novelty and anticipation of travel but actually being on a plane is the worst.

My problems with flying are mostly:

1. smaller seats, fatter asses. I have a ton of sympathy for people who are genetically or otherwise large, but it’s not fair to have your fat rolls occupying my space

2. amenity drought without corresponding fare reductions. Ever more we are cattle and there’s nothing special about flying anymore

3. humanity as a whole is dispensing with basic manners. People playing videos at full volume, placing their bare feet on your armrest, farting, being Karens with the staff or other passengers, etc; it’s enough to make me borderline agoraphobic

In hindsight, there were so many ways I could have handled it better, that is, make him look like an even more complete cunt, but in the heat of the moment, I failed....
