@popvulture I didn’t read that book, although I do remember a UK TV adaptation that believe had Paddy Considine. Was pretty good, should check out the book.

And yeah, the author of the Prestige (Christopher Priest) is one of my favourite authors. He had a bit of success in the 70s with a couple of new wavey sci-fi novels. Unusual ideas, maybe not too much emotional depth. From the 80s onwards he moved away from sci-fi but remains unconventional in the best possible way. His novel The Affirmation was probably my favourite book for most of my 20s. Read it a few times, but have been scared to in recent years in case it doesn’t strike the same chord.

I wasn’t bored for one minute during “Oppenheimer” but then again there were toddler interruptions and the viewing was broken up a bit accordingly. For me it’s Nolan’s best yet.

      Think it, be it.

I was bored for most of Oppenheimer sorry to those who liked it. I think Richard Brody from the New Yorker described it appropriately as a history channel movie. Not so boring that it isn't worth watching, but definitely not energising.

I haven’t watched it yet but I like all the other Godzilla movies so my expectations are high.

Just watched Barbie, it was brilliant. I fear though the ultimate irony will be that it gets beat out at the Oscars by Oppenheimer… a film made by a man about a man who LITERALLY invented world destruction. Sorry Barbie.

One of my buddies was an extra in Barbie. They didn’t even tell them what they were filming. He was on the bus with all the other extras and some guy comes on and says “we need 3 men in suits”. He was in a suit so he got up. Gets told to walk down a corridor, the doors are going to burst open, and basically just keep walking. He says he damn near shat himself when Margot Robbie bursts through the double doors and goes running past him. (Haven’t seen it but apparently it was part of Barbie’s escape sequence.)

                Take the dive...

Just finished Poor Things. Highly recommended… along the lines of a twisted Benjamin button/Edward scissorhands.

@flannel-slut Good to hear…its on our list. I tend to like stuff Emma Stone chooses to do. Loved The Favourite.

@SKT I need to make a point of watching the favorite. Really enjoyed the Lobster as well. Yorgos puts out some wild stuff.

@steelworker definitely does not follow the Hollywood tropes. Worth putting on the to-watch list

Curious to see what he did with the lighting on this one — I know he’s done most (if not all?) of his stuff with natural light. I heard that due to union regulations, there’d be a union lighting guy just standing around on the set with nothing to do. Found that whole concept pretty fascinating.

Loved Dune 2 and look forward to Dune: Messiah. Villeneuve just crushes it. His treatments are so good, so visionary and tasteful , with such impact. The fact that he was able to do more than justice to Bladerunner in a sequel was really impressive and he’s done the same with both Dune films.

I like David Lynch’s version but Villeneuve is on another level and his vision better aligns to what’s in my head having read the book.

                                        Think it, be it.

I have tickets for Dune II in IMAX for this Friday. I can’t wait. I’ve been looking forward to this for 2 years. It’s the 70mm film too. The 2 hour drive will be worth it. I love how Denis’ films are dark but still stunning
