I work in construction and end up covered in dyes, silicones etc most days so wearing Iron Heart for work is out of the question really, but it’s really starting to bother me how quick I burn through workwear branded jogging bottoms, dickies/scruffs etc. I spend most of my time on roofs so Snickers type work pants with multiple pockets tend to limit my movement and are out of the question too.
So… my question is.. does anyone know of any jeans that I can wear for work what aren’t going to break the bank or die on me in the space of two months? I guess the obvious answer would be Levi’s but thought I’d post this in case anyone knows something I don’t!

@DeeDee85 maybe you could find a secondhand pair of IH on eBay. I just found a pair of ducks on there for $110 for my wife.

@DeeDee85 When my buddies were short workers in their flooring business, I often leant a hand helping out and dealt with the same issues you have described.

I found that the Carhartt Duck’s to work pretty well in that environment.

After @Giles ‘ comment re: @mcgrail ‘s stretch question, maybe I should rephrase my original answer. I’ve gotten a good bit of stretch out of many pairs of IH, but I’ve never had a pair start out as very tight and end up comfortable. They always stretched some, but never ended up where I wanted them and I ended up selling them. A little tight: not a problem. Of course YMMV, and I’d have to see pics, but that’s where I leaned based on the info.

@DeeDee85 I have a pair of Patagonia double knee ducks that seem pretty tough, though I haven’t put them through that kind of punishment. Agree with @goosehd that Carhartt’s great, and the first thing that came to mind. I feel like Levis will fall to bits in hardly any time.

Depends on how tight they are. If they are very tight, as you say thn you may want to size up. If they are snug and you think an addl inch or so would make them feel better then I say keep them. In my experience very tight jeans never get comfortable.

@popvulture @goosehd @Oaktavia appreciate all the suggestions, taken on board and will let you know how I get on.. when I was younger I went for the cheapest jeans I could find and to be honest they did far outlast the workwear branded jogging bottoms I’ve been using. Guess I ended up a sucker for comfort in my old age 😂 I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for some cheaper Carharrt ducks 👍🏼

@DeeDee85 Just a heads up that you can find Carhartt's pretty cheap at farmer supply type stores (or at least you can here). Kind of hit and miss if you can find your size though...

@DeeDee85 you could look into some of the entry level higher end brands too, like Bravestar and Iron and Resin. Both make workwear double knee type pants in an “approachable” price range while still being good quality.

                              Hey,

Can I get some help re sizing, please?

                              TLDR:
I tried a pair of 888 36 and they were too big by an inch in the waist
I tried a pair of 888 34 and I couldn’t button them up. They were also tight everywhere else (self edge didn’t have a 35)
Are the 634 in a size 34 a good idea?

                              My info:
                              Thighs: ~25
Waist: ~34.5 (I don’t own a perfect fitting pair of pants)
                              Height: 6’4
                              Weight: 95KG/210IB
                              Build: lean

Note on thighs* I usually lift. But, I had knee surgery a few months ago. I’ve since lost some size in the legs and expect to add it back on over the next 6 months.

I think a good bet is a 34/34.5 waist (to stretch an inch) with a ~13+ thigh in a straight fit.

I tried the full count 1103 (15oz) in a 34 and they fit snug in the waist, just right in the thigh, but felt tight in the crotch. They measure ~ 11.75 front rise and 13 upper thigh.

I recently took a somewhat misinformed punt on a pair of Samurai S510XX 36 (now for sale) with the following measurements per the iron heart measuring guide:
                              Waist laid flat: 18
                              Front rise: 12
                              Back rise: 17
                              Thigh 13.75
                              Knee: 9.5
                              Hem: 8.5

They’re over an inch too big in the waist. I can wear them high on my hips but then I’m constantly pushing them down and conscious of the faff.

An 888 size 36 has a front rise ~12.5 and back rise of 16.9. A 34 634 has a 11 front rise, 15.5 rear, and a slightly smaller thigh at 13.3. Given my height, thigh and waist will this model and size be too small?

                              Some other questions, please:
How much will the rise area loosen, stretch and mould?

How much will the thigh stretch? I’ve read contrasting answers. Some say they won’t stretch, others say they have gotten 1/2 an inch.

Should I talk directly to iron heart to see if I can get a 634, size 34, with a slightly longer rise and bigger thigh, if possible? (Having seen that thing suggested here a few times)

Are there any models I have overlooked considering the above?

                              Thanks

The strech depends on the fabric you choose. If you go for the 21oz flagship you will get 1 to 1.5 inches. I think a tag 34 in the 634 cut should do you right. The thigh will give 0.5 if you need it in stretch. The samurais you posted look like how a tag 36 will fit like.

@twotouches the best way to go is to contact the guys at IHUK they’re the best in finding the right size for you! But a denim you vmcan’t button is a no go it will never fit and will be a waste of money imo. Good to have you here and i’ll hope IHUK will find the right pair for you!

Ngl tho some of that stuff is very cool, just wouldn’t wanna be framing a house while wearing it.

@DeeDee85 IMO, the farming/construction websites/shops are one of the best balances for functional and cheap out there for workwear clothing.

One area I would not skimp on is boots. I have found cheap shoes/boots absolutely brutal on my back/feet/knees and will not compromise.

No problem throwing out a pair or $40/50 dollar jeans but will always spend more on a pair of boots so that I can walk comfortably at the end of a gruelling day.
