I had the chance to see James Brown open for The Dead at Bonnaroo That was pretty incredible.

In the easy chair with my boots on, melted whiskey in my hand. Could'na been asleep for more than three hours...time to go to work again...

Damn that would’ve been awesome. I’ve got one great Dead story I’ll try to write about later.

@SKT holy shit!! Bowie as a first concert!! That’s as good as it gets! Never saw himself. Somehow only became a huge fan after he died. Boggles my mind.

            Here was my first concert:

@Mizmazzle another brilliant first gig! I bet it was hard to keep the standard up from that.

Thanks for reviving this thread, Sean. Opening those tape cases took me on an awesome trip to my early show years. Pulled a few of some of my faves from back in the day.

@Mizmazzle dang that's a good first show! I saw them in 96 iirc, Lollapalooza in New Orleans. My first show was Aerosmith on the Pump tour 😂. Joan Jett opened, which was pretty f'n rad.

@SKT totally miss the hard tickets!! I’m just glad we had them to keep when we were kids! I find I go through those tape cases about once a year and it makes me really happy to think about those shows and the friends I was with.

@IrishHeart that’s awesome! I only got to see him that one time. Wish it had been more

One of my first gigs was Bowie on the Aladdin Sane/Ziggy Stardust tour in 1973. A mate and I caught the train into Birmingham and as we made our way to the venue, more and more Ziggy Stardust lookalikes joined the madding throng. As a couple of gauche 15-year-olds it was all a bit overwhelming and we wished we too had dressed up. Then, when Bowie came onto the stage as Alladin Sane, all the Ziggy's looked a bit outdated, and we felt a little less gauche.....

Every time I saw him there were people dressed differently according to their favourite album/era.

I sadly never got to see Bowie. If I could pick an era it'd probably be 77-80ish. Scary Monsters would've been an epic tour but as far as I know, he opted out from touring it after John Lennon was killed.

Roskilde 1993 - not my first, but one of the best festivals I‘ve been to. And guess what, the hottest gig there (IMO) was Bjørn Again.
