The Self Edge Bender's Lookbook
The calm solace one finds in a dimly lit dive bar is a feeling known well to many San Franciscans. The deep history of hiding out in a bar goes back over a century in San Francisco. Starting with the Gold Rush days as the capital of California’s lawless “Barbary Coast” to the Kerouac and Ginsberg hang-outs in North Beach in the 1950’s to the Tavern Guild organization of gay bar owners of the 1960’s; San Francisco has seen its fare share of social groups using bars as their home base.

With this lookbook we’ve put the spotlight on Benders Bar and the people who own and work there. Benders is where we’ve called our home base in San Francisco for two decades and which also happens to be around the corner from the first Self Edge on Valencia Street which we opened in 2006. Just a couple of businesses with distinct visions, aging somewhat gracefully.

Mister Freedom hits us this week with a strong winter collection of new shirts and jackets. The Barnstormer jacket is a standout piece from the new line made of a heavy Japanese jungle cloth in a worn-in shade of khaki. All four items are available now at all of our stores.

NEW STEVENSON OVERALL CO. JEANS!
Stevenson just hit us with three jean models. Anyone who's been following us for a while knows that Stevenson has produced some of our favorite jeans over the years. We have a new straight leg Encinitas model which is made of a black warp and black weft denim, a straight tapered Carmel jean made of their sanforized indigo selvedge denim, and also the Encinitas in an unsanforized (but rinsed) indigo denim.

No sorry, we won't be stocking that denim or using it to make a 633 jean.
But we do have the 633 coming back in some other denim styles soon plus a whole set of collaboration items coming out in the fall of 2024! -

PURE BLUE JAPAN WINTER LINE & TEA-CORE DYED JEANS
You've heard of tea-core dyed leather? Now we have tea-core dyed denim, a first by Pure Blue Japan. Using the same black dying techniques used on many Japanese horsehides PBJ has created a black denim which fades to a deep brown hue in high friction points with regular wear. This denim has a black weft and a tea-core dyed black over brown warp. We've seen worn in samples of this denim in person and it looks absolutely wild.
These are now available at all stores along with new denim jackets and kasuri chambray shirts.

Anyone who's been following Self Edge for a while knows that this is one of the top ten things we've ever carried, and we have Stevenson Overall make them for us every couple of years in new colors. These are made of a Japanese spun certified mulesing-free fine merino wool, they’re extremely soft and can be worn in both cold and somewhat warm climates due to the natural temperature regulating properties of merino wool. FINE CREEK C-WORKS KERNEL TYPE II & LEON HORSEHIDE JACKETS
Type II jackets are here from Fine Creek’s C-Works line. This new “Kernel” model is made of a Japanese camel (colored) deerkskin, is fully cupra lined, and comes in a slightly oversized Type II denim jacket style fit.

No sorry, no plans for making the 633 in LHT.. but we do have the 633 coming in a new denim in the late fall of this year!
