been on Swans gig last night. it was long - almost 3 hrs, loud and very good. when i was young lad 30ish years ago, their music triggered some emotions in me that other music didnt, it was unique experience, so they have a special place in my book. and MG keeps his ansamble fresh so they dont sound washed out.

Incredible writing and storytelling. unreal voice. If you don't know Gabe Lee... well neither did I till a couple months ago.

@jordanscollected love Gabe Lee. Thanks for sharing this one.

Phew this is some good shit!

@popvulture goosebumps when he's talking about the cast iron skillet

@jordanscollected yeah man I loved that line. Funny how Jason Isbell also has a pretty great song about a cast iron skillet at the moment — guess it's in the air. That said, although I love Isbell, I find his lyrics can sort of tread into melodrama at times. I appreciate Gabe Lee's earnestness with a nice touch of restraint here, really delivers more via that subtlety.
I've gotta say I'm super picky about this sort of stuff, which is sort of funny seeing that it's the kind of music I write, myself. I've always found it sort odd that it's what comes out of me as of late, because it's not really what I listen to a lot. Maybe it's because I'm so picky about it. My own personal holy grails in this world are Springsteen's Nebraska, Elvis Costello's early demos around his first and second albums, and of course people like Prine and Townes. And obviously Dylan. Anyway, I'm of on a tear but I just appreciate so much about this Gabe Lee song, and will certainly dig deeper. Thanks for the rec!
