How can we have countries that have puppets in power that are best known for their shambolic hosting of TV shows? The day someone from Geordie Shore, The Only Way is Essex, or Love Island make it in to office (and I don't mean the high street shoe shop…I thank you!), in the words of Ani Difranco, I'm going to take my friends and move to Canada.

On a serious note @Giles has the business risk been assessed for any potential price hike due to the impact of brexit other than currency exchange rates fluctuating? Will shipping freight and duty remain the same? (As far as you can sensibly predict)

There really is zero way of sensibly predicting anything.  We're going to roll with whatever the arseholes give us….

                    @Giles:

                    Pound and Euro Price Rises

Once upon a time, we had dynamic currency exchange rates.  Our base currency is US Dollars, but that meant that GBP and Euro prices fluctuated on a daily basis, which caused some confusion with customers, but did ensure that there was price parity between our 3 main currencies.

A couple of years ago we fixed the exchange rates to avoid these daily GBP and Euro pricing fluctuations.

Over the last few months, the USD has strengthened a lot, well, more accurately the Pound and Euro have crapped out against the US Dollar because of the uncertainty over our (laugh) Brexit strategy, which means we need to adust GBP and Euro prices.

As of 1st September, there will be an approx 10% rise in GBP pricing and 5% rise in Euro pricing.  US Dollar will remain as is.

Does this mean I need to bulk buy [emoji55]

I assume you are having a dig at our American cousins?  Well FFS we are in far deeper shite than them, and the last I knew, none of our current or recent past "leaders" were TV show hosts.

Boris has actually hosted “Have I got news” a while back. Quite funny in his bafoon like way. Hasn’t changed. Just not funny anymore.

I wouldn't say our orangutan was really a "TV host," as that requires a modicum of charm and wit. He was a "reality TV star," which any knob can handle, as evidenced by the proliferation of people with no discernible talent or skill now clogging celebrity.

@Giles both…Boris guest hosted Have I got News for You, and very badly presented a history documentary series.

I would suggest that the citizens of El Paso think the UK are doing slightly better than them at the moment.

Yes, yes, yes @sabergirl look at the political and financial history of all empires just before they fall. Lots of historians and economists think the US is at the same edifice now. Things go in cycles, maybe just not in our lifetime. I'm concerned for our 4 yr old son. Generations before haven't been. Baby boomers.

Not to make light of our global troubles, they concern me greatly too, but one perspective that gives hope (apart from reading Hans Rosling and Noam Chomsky), is that my parents brought me up during The Cold War, utterly convinced that nuclear Armageddon that would end us all was just around the corner.

History has been famously described as "just one damn thing after another". Our generation and those growing up now face a new challenge and threat just as my parents generation faced there's. The end result is unknown, the prospects are daunting but defeatism is a truly pointless exercise.

@neph93 it is the economic risks and threats that concern me. At 46 I vividly recall When the Wind Blows, my folks werent too worried about a nuclear winter,  they were more concerned about the police reactions to the miner's strike (as was I). The global economy is more volatile than is has ever been, including pre/post both world wars (widely held view of economists).

Working as I do for a local authority I am privy to information such as crisis planning and local authority responses. There are plans in place for no deal brexit and all other brexit scenarios. This isn't made public because of the risk of public disorder. The general view is things will go badly.

I am concerned about my son not having meaningful employment, his safety at school and college from county line gangs that are rife in the area we moved from, and being able to afford housing.

I am an optimist by nature, but I also have information at my disposal that challenges and distorts that perspective.
