Great spot! Is that place full of Kokee frogs singing at night?

Such a great spot! My friends found it a few years ago and go there the same weekend every year…
No frogs up there. I'm assuming the altitude was high enough and it was cold enough that they don't like it that far up the mountain...
The Kokees are constantly singing right out my window though...

Welp, this tour came during another big transition for me. Decided the brewery I was with wasn't the right fit and the job wasn't quite what I was looking for. Yesterday was my last day on the Island and I'm officially back in Michigan for a bit. If things continue on their current path it's looking like I'll be moving out to the east coast in about a months time…
As a going away present one of my friends hooked me up with a helicopter tour of the island. First time in a helicopter, and getting to take the whole island in from above was pretty amazing. Once I sort through and edit my photos I'll get them posted up here. In the meantime, here is a quick fit with the ride...

It was a definitely a big decision, but I knew moving out there was a role of the dice to begin with. While I'm bummed to be leaving such a wonderful place with such great people so soon, I learned a lot about myself and what I'm looking for in the process. Couldn't be happier about where I am personally right now…
I'll definitely be landing on my feet somewhere. I'm just trying to take my time and be more deliberate in my search this time around. With the way things are going it's looking like I'll be working with sours and barrel aged beers again sooner than later....
Managed to sort through the pictures I took. Pardon the glare on the window. Tried to avoid it as much as possible...
Sunrise from the airport...
Getting ready for the flight. I got to ride co-pilot…
That's Mauna Kea off in the distance. You can just barely make out the telescopes at the peak…
This is an old grown over volcanic crater…
This is the main crater in Volcano National Park. With the recent eruption it greatly increased in size…
One of the more active sites on the volcano currently…
This is Fissure 8, the epicenter of the recent destruction. It popped up right in the middle of a neighborhood, displace many people from their homes. Thankfully, there were no deaths and only one serious injury…
The geothermal plant managed to avoid too most of the lava flow somehow…
The lava added 700+ acres of land to the coast of the island…
Approaching the lush valleys and many waterfalls on the northern coast of the island. Parts of Jurrasic Park were shot in this area…
All in all, the flight was a totally rad experience…

Incredible pictures! Make me want to take a family vacation there more than ever.
Best of luck with your next adventure(s)!

Spent the last few days driving around Michigan, visiting friends, and just generally enjoying fall…
On the road heading up to Traverse City...
Swung by a friends place. He's very dedicated to cider making, and this past summer he started planting an orchard for personal / home use. All kinds of fun / weird / old apple varieties. Can't wait to see what the project yields in a few years time…
They also have a lovely view out their back yard…
Yesterday I grabbed a coffee and a fancy "poptart" that was basically shortcrust with a super tasty apple filling…
Then I went hiking around up on the Old Mission Peninsula (a picturesque peninsula that juts out into Lake Michigan). Pyatt Lake is one of my favorite spots, especially in spring when this place absolutely packed with wild flowers of all kinds…
This time around the trail / forest floor were covered in leaves…
Pardon the poor focus, but there were some beautiful fungi sprouting all around…
Someone brought a nice rocker down to the lake…
And the lake itself…
And now a much bigger lake. This is the view of Lake Michigan while driving down along the west side of the peninsula…
Went down to Lansing (the state capital) last night to visit with a few more friends. Didn't take many photos, but I was able to swing by one of my favorite coffee shops before skipping town this morning. Had a really fantastic lemon zest donut…
And now, a few highlights from my soundtrack on the road…
Sarah Louise - Deeper Woods (one of my favorite folk albums of the year)
Kate Tempest - Let Them Eat Chaos
Remember Sports - Slow Buzz (favorite punk/emo/whatever album of the year so far)
Marissa Anderson - Cloud Corner

Aloha!
Great aerial pics, thanks for sharing. Hope you find what you’re looking for at the next spot. G’luck man!

If you dig that Sarah Louise record, check out Itasca. Saw them both on the same bill a few years ago.

Great pics!.. What brewery are you looking at btw?.. Come on: spill the beans!.. Barrel aging program and sours doesn't really narrow it down
Beans are ready to be spilled… In a few weeks (as soon as my car arrives in MI from HI) I'll be moving out to the Catskill Mountains in New York to make beer at Catskill Brewery. Can't wait to get out there...
Also, the jacket is on it's way and should be landing with @celik real soon…
