How does the 19oz LHT compare to the 21oz fabric?

I’m a huge fan of the latter, but sold my 777s this year as I moved away from slimmer cuts. Will probably grab some 21oz 888s, but I’m unsure whether I should give the 19 LHT a try instead. What I love about the 21oz IH fabric is the immediate comfort, stretch/shrink is easy to predict, and slow fading. What would I be getting if I swerve for the LHT instead?

      Cheers

The 19LHT is one of our more unpredictable types of denim, particularly in the leg-twist department, it also starts life as pretty rigid….But you'll get great fades.

This is easily IH’s most under the radar denim. It is fantastic. My IH-666L-19 are my comfiest jeans now, comparable to 21oz. But initially they are harder going and crunchier. Slightly harder work that 21oz, but totally worth it. Stretch wise, do the same sums as with 21oz. Fade beautifully.

Yours and Twin's LHT truckers sold me on LHT for my next pair of jeans! Gonna give the 777s a shot, but I need to work on my 21oz SBG 666s first…

Oh for sure man. I’ve been living in my slubs and love them, but fancy something a bit different for colder months. Also, my 21oz box is kinda ticked with my SBGs, so I’m defo erring towards the 19oz.

What are y'all wearing for lightweight warm base layers? Looking into something 100% merino wool. Don't want something that looks too athletic, and want something that is thin but warm. Whatchu all got?

I've looked at the Smartwool 250, but I can't imagine that for that price point (110usd each) there have to be better options.

I have some older Smart Wool tops that I really like.  Some of their newer stuff is too athletic or too stylistic for my taste, but they still have the basics in short sleeve and long that I would purchase.

Here’s my response and I don’t know if it helps…if it’s a base layer, does it matter what it looks like?

I primarily use base layers for outside activities like skiing, running, etc.  Have used Smartwool and Underarmour, but both are athletic in appearance.

Yup good point!  Living in Southern California, sometimes base layers become the only layer as the day heats up.  Start off in the morning with a Smart Wool layer and UHF or denim shirt being perfect.  By late morning or early afternoon, it can get too much and I want a basic color merino on.  Cotton t's layers work too, but sometimes a merino top has a slight edge.

Understand…I’ve always related the term “base layers” with sport activities.  You just want something to wear as an undershirt/garment that you can wear in the public if it gets to warm…

I’ve always worn various cotton t-shirts…

.      I love the Freenote Henley shirts, under a UHF,or a denim shirt. Really comfortable. Different layers on top depending on the temperature. One other thing, from years of riding a motorcycle during the Winter,I still adhere to the mantra of wearing one more layer than you think you’ll need. Wife thinks I’m nuts.
