I think everything has been said and that it’s probably a matter of personal preference.

I personally went for tight waist over comfortable start and did not regret that decision for a second.
The waist did stretch out fairly quickly. You can accelerate that process by doing a handful of squats.

Going tight allows the top block to really conform to your body (which it will, the 21OZ has a lot of give).

I can see why people go comfortable though. If you’re wearing a belt and don’t care too much about the waist stretching out a bit, go for it. Just don’t make the mistake of assuming „the fit will stay like this“. I’ve wasted a few pairs on that assumption when I first got into Raw.

          Use it or lose it.

Jepp… comfort is highly subjective, and the sweet spot in the comfort/fit ratio differs. I’ve had more more pairs I’ve needed to flip because I didn’t account for stretch and they endes up top big, than the other way. Given your description of body shape etc, I would go w33. A few days discomfort and years of a satisfactory fit is better than a few days comfort and an unsatisfactory fit, long term.

Incredible work. That must be one of the best looking pairs of worn 21oz I have ever seen. And I’ve seen MANY.

Looking for some sizing guidance.  I’ve measured two existing pairs I have, based on the IH sizing method.

Iron Heart 633S-18 tag size 33, waist 32.  I’ve had this for over a year, it’s a snug fit but not uncomfortable
Iron Heart 633S-142 tag size 31, waist 31.  This is a relatively new pair, but very very very snug on the verge of uncomfortable.

With the above, I’m leaning towards the 888 in size 33 in the hope that the waist will stretch an inch and not shrink after a soak.  Is this the right size, particularly based on the 633S-18 measurement above?

The measurements you’ve posted don’t tell the full story of what makes a fit uncomfortable for you. Take the measurements of each dimension in the top block (for me, most important is waist, back rise, and thigh and compare the 21oz to a pair you want them to feel like. 21 oz will stretch at least an inch in the waist. I think 33 or 32 would be what you want, depending on thigh room needed.

Def don’t size down to 31 again, sounds like that wasn’t comfy for you.

My 633S-18 are a super comfy jean.  Have measured once again:

                            Waist - 32"
                            Front - 10 ½"
                            Back - 15 ¼"
                            Thigh - 11"

Based on these measurements, it's clear that the 888 is a much roomier fit so I'm not thinking a tag size 32" is probably the best?

If you’re measuring the IH way, looks like you could do 32 no problem, and have a roomy comfy fit from the get-go. That would be my personal choice. However, considering the stretch in the 21oz, I expect there are some who would say you’re going to want the 31, especially if you’ll still have an inch of room to play with in the thigh. Bear in mind that the waist is also going to hit you a full inch higher on your body, where you’re probably skinnier. I know this isn’t being much of a help, but there ya go.

Here's my IH collection, apologies for the poor pics
The 3 images in the top row are the 633S-18 in size 33 and the bottom 3 images are the 633S-142 in size 31.  The 6633S-142 are a very tight fit with very little room in the front rise.  Do you think the 888S-21 in size 32 will be too loose?

@pexel Here is my take on it with all the inter web warnings. I would go with 32, they will be 33s. Fit is personal but looks as if you need size in the thighs.
Thighs don’t stretch much or not at all.

If they fit generous you can always wash a bit warmer or do mild spin to shrink, but going in the other direction is difficult.

                                      Others may know better….

With a natural 35.5" waist, I'm torn between size 35 and 36 in the 21 oz. 888S.  Suggestions appreciated.

In terms of fit preferences, I'm hoping they end up comfortable and slightly relaxed (but not sloppy or loose) as opposed to tight or trim.

IMO I would pay more attention to the rise and leg then, the waist will stretch for you with time.
