I have run into the same issue with adding patches to older vests that don't fit anymore. My hand sewing looked pretty bad and took forever- especially larger patches. My wife actually was just given an old sewing machine from her grandmother so I'll try that out.

just picked up this piece in the XL.  will post fit pics soon.  will this stretch?  i dig the fit, but would dig it more if it broke just a little bit.

Is not wearing it buttoned a deal breaker,as it looks like it’s pulling a little bit around the chest area.

There’s not really any give in the duck. And tops don’t stretch like bottoms do. Better off sizing up imo

I have 3 IH vests and none of them have ever stretched,and I wear a UHF and a heavyweight hoodie underneath it. Your probably not concerned with that,but at some point your going to have to wash it,and that would at the very least bring you back to square 1.

It may not be a very popular opinion around here, but I personally want my vests to be fitted.  I recently picked up the indigo wabash vest and sized down 1 from my IH thermal size, to wear it over a t-shirt.

That said, I can see how it's puckering a bit in the chest/pit area.  I don't think it looks bad if you don't think it's uncomfortable.  You're probably in a situation where the next size up might be a little loose, if you're looking for a fitted look.

But yeah, duck won't give much.

I sized up to the 44 (XXL) and brought it on my vacation to Kauai.  Fit is definitely better.  It's not the best match with swim trunks, but it's also not the worst…

My duck vest wasn’t getting the amount of love that it should’ve so I decided to wax it and it changed the fabric tremendously. I’m very excited with the results and looking forward to seeing how it’ll function now and age
