Derek Trucks is easily in my top 5 favorite living guitarists. I really love Tedeschi Trucks Band and think they’re among the best live acts out there. That said, I do miss Derek Trucks Band and its more jazzy and world music orientation. They would not be quite the same without Yonrico Scott and Kofi Burbridge (both huge losses for music) should they ever reunite.

I do have a poster signed by TTB, The Wood Brothers, and Hot Tuna:

      Think it, be it.

Other than the Allman Bros, the only other band I liked Derek with ,is when he played with Eric Clapton. I really wanted to like TTB,but I just can't get into them.

Speaking of Derek and Eric, I've seen TTB do a great cover of "Anyday." Derek really is an insane player. His understanding of slide is mind-boggling to me.

Derek only 14 yrs old in this video. Said he played slide because it didn’t hurt his fingers.

Came across this picture of Eric Clapton talking to his guitar roadie, back in 1968,before their farewell concert at Royal Albert Hall. All he needed was a Vox Wah-Wah, and 2 Marshall stacks.

Decided I wanted something with more strings so have got one of these on the way
Treating it as a project guitar, the plan being to chuck a set of sperzel machineheads, tusk nut and bareknuckle polymaths on it, and get a really thorough set up done. Then I’ll be able to play Meshuggah to my heart’s content

Love seeing the gear thread here. Huge Allman Bros head as well…

Here is some of my gear.
Brand new Bass Half & Half made by the Milkman. Absolutely love this thing. Been gigging with it lately and its the sound I've wanted for years

This is my Fender MIJ J Bass. 84 I think… Just about every show I've played has been with this guy. I've bought many basses and I always get rid of them and go back to my true blue. It's my best friend  😃

Random tele I put together over covid. Put a lollar lapsteel pickup on the bridge and a goldfoil on the neck. It's super cool but I don't really play it too much…

I know many of you guys have some awesome setups, my Blackstar has recently given up on me and I'm loathed to spend over a grand on the Fender I had my eye on originally. Any suggestions for a sub $1k amp? Really only for use in my apartment so hasn't got to be massive!

                        Cheers!

one of those Fender Princeton Reverb reissues should work nicely. Either the '65 or '68 reissues are nice, and easy to upgrade the speaker down the road if you want to.

EDIT: Don't remember what Fender you had mention before. Has was it those same ones I just mentioned?

It's a great one, especially for apartment use. Lightweight, takes pedals well, sounds great just directly plugged in as well depending on what guitar you're playing into it. Plus they're used prices have pretty much plateaued, so if you pick one up and decide it's not for you, should be able to unload and break even.

@chrisjohnnick I can't find one locally at all to even test out! Must be a sought after amp + the local store owner said since the pandemic there has been supply chain issues so stock is low for pretty much everything.

I am tempted by the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb which has a built in attenuator, but still don't know if 1) that would be overkill for my apartment and 2) it's sacrilege not to get an authentic tube amp  😃

A fender custom that they had in stock.  It’s based off a 69 strat.  The paint that they used in 69 was unstable and quickly went from red to pink.  It was the height of the paisley, flower child, era and I thought the history was super cool.  I could never afford a true 69, so this is as close as I can get.

Fender also released a group of guitars around 2018/19 that were made in Japan that look very similar to this one (came in the pink or black colour way).  The one I have came from the custom shop and is more true to the original.

Super fun and great sounding guitar to play.  So fun that I have thought about getting rid of a couple of other guitars that I have.  Problem is that every once in a while, I pick them up and forget how fun they are to play.

Great looking Custom Shop! I really like the way the fretboard aging actually looks accurate on that one — a little lighter than the headstock tint, really looks like an old one. I had a 56 Custom Shop strat for a while in Shoreline Gold, was really cool for the most part but the neck was like super yellow and had a couple bits of overly enthusiastic relic-ing on the board. Looked off, drove me crazy, sold it. Been looking for the right one that checks all the boxes, will get there someday.

@goosehd that is awesome! Lovely hard case too. I had a made in Japan strat a few years ago, really rate them. I still rue getting rid of my Mexican telecaster to this day, wasn't particularly expensive but played so well, haven't been able to find one close, so I'll always be on the hunt. Maybe an original custom shop is a bit of a pipe dream for the time being!
