And although this song's a classic, my fave is the rockier Rubin stuff.

Barbarian. Love is the greatest album ever. Electric was fun, by all means, but Love is Ian Astbury at his messy, barely coherent best, along with Duffy's jangly, shimmering guitar sound and the iffy rhythm section, the whole thing is waaaay over the top.

I dunno, no one can really be wrong here (I mean, any more than no one can really ever be wrong about an opinion). They don't even sound like the same band between those two albums. If you prefer unvarnished "over the top" rock n roll, "Electric" is for you. If you like more of a polished post-punk vibe, then you'll prefer "Love." Truly apples and oranges versus an apple and a better apple IMO.

        Think it, be it.

Just realised Pizni Iz The Smiths came out 30 years ago this year  :'. Anyone else remember this?

Never heard of this before, The Smiths were (and mostly still are) anathema to my musical ouvre. However, it does prove what I've always said, that they would have been a much better band without That Twat as a singer.

QFT. Johnny Marr is great, but I never understood Morrissey's appeal as an artist, and he seems…. less than great as a human being. I will admit to having liked the Smiths for a while back in the day, mainly on the strength of Marr.

          Think it, be it.

Yeah I can't say I'd pick which version of the Cult I think is "better" — god knows I love some post punk / new wave, in fact I listen to that sort of stuff more than straight ahead rock (hasn't been always the case, but more so these days). I just kinda lean more towards the rocky Cult.

As for Johnny Marr, I do think he was the main brains behind the Smiths, by a long shot. I do love Moz as a singer, though — he's a shitty human, but I'll always have a soft spot for his work both with the band and as a solo guy.

Well, EDIT — I can't definitively say he's a shitty human, but his recent behavior certainly indicates as much.

I know. There isn’t a tongue-in-cheek emoji yet though. I love Electric too. But I do despise Sonic Temple. Either way, it was only my opinion dressed in psuedo forum bravura. @popvulture  is the best sort of barbarian.

I’ve never been that into the Smiths but these covers were fun (as was some of the other stuff the Ukrainians put out) and definitely better without Morrissey. They were played quite frequently by John Peel at the time.

I was being too defensive haha. Electric was a formative one for me, though as a barbarian I definitely understand where you’re coming from. I don’t think a single Electric track is as great as “She Sells Sanctuary” as much as I love the album. Just love that song and the whole album.

@Jett129  There’s a lot going on in that video!  Andy Garcia is doing something and the girl from Ferris Bueller shows up and all the Jean Claude stuff. It’s fantastic in other words and I’ve never heard their cover.

@Matt Yeah Spotify is killing me. My wife and I share a duel account and it works so well. I hear Apple is good but I hate switching. Ugh. They’ve got Green Thoughts though which is awesome.

I got into the Smithereens about the same time as the Replacements and X. They were also kind of a natural extension of my love for Marshall Crenshaw too.

Apple Music is good IMO. I liked Google Play, but didn't like the change to YouTube Music and also was trying to deplatform from Google and Facebook a bit, so I made the change.

I've never liked how Spotify treats artists, so I've been off that platform for a while. I guess it's "pick your poison" as far as that piece goes though.

I’m in the same place with them now.  It’s a complicated call for me.  My kids have phones with no service that they use for Spotify to listen to podcasts and music so we’re in pretty deep.

I’ve seen Replacements and X but never Smithereens.  Would have been great.
