I had a days bass guiding with a friend yesterday.  We started at 6:30 and finished at 20:30. Walked 30K steps (much of it thigh-deep in water).  I am suitably knackered.

An amazing day, we learnt an awful lot about watercraft, caught fish and missed some topwater takes, feet away from the rod tip by very large fish.

An amazing day, and now I have a few more spots that I know how to fish and at what state of tide…

@Giles Have you noticed the fish acting unusual in your area?  This may explain why…

                    The route through the mangroves…

And I think I got here 30 minutes to late on the ebb tide, most of the fish had left the mangroves and were ocean bound.  I found one small group of about 10 fish, had one decent cast at them, I had a follow from one of them, then a refusal to commit.  I'll use a slightly more subtle fly next time I go down there….

That is so awesome!!  Serious question:  Have or would you consider retiring to the area?  I've been not so subtly talking to Laura about moving to the Caribbean in about 10/15 years and just wonder if you have looked into it.

Sure, but a rabid alcoholic living on an island in the Caribbean.

A fish truly deserving of their moniker.

My friends living in the Turks mentioned that drinking becomes habitual very quickly.  Pretty much any gathering and even school fundraisers/functions involve alcohol.

Our friends decided to move to the Turks and Caicos in their 30's and are going to move back stateside when they get closer to retirement and need healthcare.  The health care system is not very good and almost everything involves going back to the states for treatment.

Pluses include no sales tax, property tax, income tax and corporation tax, but anything brought in off island is taxed very heavily (37.5% for most items and cars/vehicles are even worse).  This includes gifts that are mailed to them.  We always give them a heads up when we are coming down and arrange to pick up things they need or have their family send stuff to us to take in our bags.  They reciprocate with drinks and fun times…

I sometimes think that when we do retire we'll sell everything off we don't need, find a place down there, put our feet in the sand and snorkel, scuba, and fish to our hearts content.  The only thing that really scares me is the healthcare...

If I could have the healthcare of Norway and the climate of the Caribbean the decision would be easy...

I missed out on this long weekend’s motorcycle fishing trip due to unfinished work on my bike. Four of my bike buddies made it and just sent back these pics. Probably ok to share on this thread even if I wasn’t there…

This spot is about an 8 hour drive from town. Distance and tricky roads keep fishing habitat in good shape and they camped for two nights.

This 4 kg beauty, called dorado (Salminus brasiliensis) locally, was the prized reward.

One fishing option if we ever organize an IH trip!
