IHV-21 - Flannel Bonded Indigo Denim Type III Vest
-
I’ve never considered wearing a vest but you have me rethinking that.
It’s a whole new and exciting rabbit hole. Lot’s of different styles and ways to fit and layer. This thread (which I’ve been sadly neglecting) might offer some inspiration:

For the honourable few who own this vest (there were very few made) I have some interesting news. The received wisdom has been that despite being raw(ish) the bonded lining retards the inherent shrinkage in the 18oz denim. I've accepted this as reasonable but after a stint as a work vest while renovating a room this had finally gotten dirty enough for a wash.
I decided to hot soak it with a little washing powder and some agitation (it was mostly sawdust and grime) and after it had been in the water for an hour I came upon an idea. The vest has always been a size bigger than I would have liked, at best I could wear it over a hoodie but it was possible to fit it over a deck jacket. So I figured that while it was wet a tour through the machine on 90C wouldn't hurt it and it might be warm enough to shrink the lining thereby allowing the denim to shrink also.
Turns out I was right. And then some. I lost a couple of cm's in length about the same in the chest and shoulders. It had finally softened up over the last few weeks but is now stiff as fekk. But it fits so much better and will see a lot more wear now. I'm happy as a pig in shit

Sounds like an ideal outcome. Glad it worked out.

Here are a flurry of fit pics of my new IHV-21. I soaked and washed it using hot water, as per @neph93's experiment. How does it look y'all? It definitely feels comfortable over my DD T3. I also tried it over a hoodie, UHF and the 21oz Sample (not pictured) and it felt great. Looks big over just a tshirt, but AFAIK this vest was not designed for that. It think it works well as an outer shell. It is heavy af! I would love some thoughts from ye olde denim folk.

@sabergirl
Thanks so much for the feedback. I agree with you, definitely serves the outer layer purpose. I'm not even sure if it would be practical to wear it over a tshirt anyway because it is so stiff and might poke and dig into my soft torso, haha.The bonded flannel is super nice, I love the red color. It actually bled more red dye than indigo in the tub when I soaked it last night. The water was pink. The heavy snaps are so rad, much easier to faster than buttons. I love the brass ones and how they look aesthetically.

@Oaktavia
great find again mate ! perfect fit and I like the denim vest over denim jacket look

-
@Daniel-San thanks dude! I dig the vest over jacket look too.
-
This is awesome, not sure how you find all the amazing older pieces, but you are the right man for the job!
I also would love to see some snap options again on the jackets!
-
@Tago-Mago @Crease a fair amount of the rarities come from the IH hoarder himself @Clint_D while others find coming through the armpits of reseller websites. Or someone in the EU finds something for me such as @Daniel-San and @tody my Eurohomies lookin' out.
-
@Oaktavia Looks really good with a leather jacket underneath too...that photo on page one shows a sample----2015 man! Sounds like Clint has alllll the good stuff
-
@dinobarnesberlin I have just one leather jacket, The Extractor. I have been meaning to try this vest over it!
@Giles is the 18oz a selvedge denim?
Edit: NVM I found it on the Wayback Machine (thanks again @sabergirl)
