Anyone here ever tried changing a buttoned shirt to snaps? I'd like to try this on my MF Garrison shirt. Any ideas would be appreciated. I would also like to know what resources you use to find good quality snaps. I'd like Permex ones but I imagine they would only do bulk orders and I'm not sure what tools are needed.

Great question. Was just going to maybe have the tailor sew them shut and then the snaps would sort of cover it up?

I thought about it a little more and decided just to change the buttons. I found some vintage ones I liked on eBay. It will look better and be a lot less work.

My wife got me a vintage N1 deck jacket for Christmas. It didn't end up fitting well and was not able to return it. I took it to a master tailor in town and he did an amazing job. I gave him my old pair of MF N1-K Deck Pants as they were made of the same jungle cloth. He ended up lengthening the coat by 3" and widening it a little to fit better in the chest. He also did a great job taking the bottom of the jacket where the drawstring goes and re attaching on the new part. I gave him a vintage talon zipper as well to finish it off. Here are some pictures of finished product.

That's really neat. I wonder if the spot at the bottom will let in cold air without the wool. Looks great, in any case. Let's see a fit pic!

The button holes of my IHSH-46 were getting a bit "loose" and starting to have some broken threads, so I went ahead and reinforced and "tightened" the holes - shirt feels indestructible now.  Anyways, here is a few pics of the before, after and a few during…

                                The factory button hole:

                                Inside of factory button hole:

Used some thread that matched pretty closely to sew starting from the very edge to cover the broken threads:

The inside is a bit "unprofessional"…

But from the outside you can't really tell anything was done!

I guess I can cross-post this from the "What Should We Make?" thread….

I basically just bleached the fack out of my IHSH-33 and turned it an off-white. I myself love the results.

Hey @Appfaff that's a pretty neat job you did right there. I might give it a shot this evening on a shirt I have with wobbly button holes.

Thanks @madmonday - I had been meaning to do it for a while, but finally sat down and did it. I'd say that it also helps the buttons not have that "pulling" appearance when fully buttoned up. I'll be doing it with the 38 next.

@UnTucked - I'm gonna go ahead and say that is actually pretty badass looking. One of my first "denim" shirts was a bleached out off white Nudie shirt that looked great with everything.

In a way, your bleached 33 reminds me of the IHSH-56 in Ivory - well done, and congrats on having the guts to bleach it! Not sure I'd be so brave haha
