@Winchy
Congratulations to you, Mariana and Alex!

Why drive all the way to the hospital if you were just going to do the job yourself in the car? Seems like a waste of time.
Congrats, though.

Today I've been cooking baked beans from scratch.
On the upside they're going to be a lot more healthy than what you find in the supermarket. I've subdivided them into portions, and there's roughly two servings of tomatoes and one of beans towards your five a day. There's probably less salt and sugar than in the processed version.
The downside is that I probably could have bought more Heinz beans than it cost in ingredients; cooking dried beans from scratch is a very, very slow process; and running a stove all afternoon during a heatwave is really not a clever idea!

@Seul having cranked out the dietary values for my home-made baked beans and the bought alternative, there doesn't seem to be any great health advantages either way. There's a bit less protein and a bit more fat, and I suspect a little less salt and refined sugar in mine, but not enough to lose sleep over.
I like to prepare beans from scratch, but I'm not sure if there's any real need. The soybeans I used (not a traditional component of baked beans) required an overnight soak, and then three hours cooking. I suspect tinned beans would have shortened the process somewhat.
