The thing with ValTho is at it is very high. Near 3000m. And at the begining of march you still have a fantastic quality of snow all over the domaine. Very impressive.

        what about switzerland? 🙂 @Giles @derivative666

It has always been super expensive for non-Swiss.  And that was before the Swiss Franc decoupled from the Euro, now it is just feckin stupid.

The Euro is super weak atm, so it makes it relatively cheap for non Euro visitors.

Whilst todays exchange rates are no indication of what they will be in 12 months.  I'd bet my house that in 12 months a holiday in Switzerland will remain far more expensive than the equivalent in France

I'll only swing it if in Switzerland where I can crash at some friends' place. The Swiss Franc and the Euro are about the same as far as USD exchange rate now FWIW. Either way, have fun!

            Think it, be it.

Born and raised in Switzerland i quitted skiing (Later on Snowboard) over 20 years ago due to some bone issues after i kinda grew up on them skis. I remember a lot skiing with school classes it was part of our schedule in winter as well with my Family in jungfrauregion doing the lauberhornabfahrt and other routes around kleine Scheidegg, had the craziest bails with my sister, grandfather and father as a child when we went to fast haha sometimes it took us nearly an hour To get free and find all of our stuff again. or my mother teached me taking the haneggschuss properly. Old school days.
Nowadays unfortunately especially lots of single/divorced parents with low disposable income cannot afford their children to have a wonderful experience in the nature. The only way for them to ever see Mountains is through the school schedule if applicable. Its not only the strong Franc which is a big part of the "Problem" for our tourism, its also a structural Problem within the Society in my country itself as well imo. G mentioned correctly that it was always expensive.
I am very proud of my memories in the Snow but i wont go back because my bones will not allow really.
Wish you guys wonderful experiences in the beautiful nature. Be safe

              Cheers,
              David

                  ?????

It's true you get about the same number of Swiss Francs to the USD as you do EUR, but that ignores the what the EUR will buy you versus what the Swiss Franc will buy you.  At the current USD/EUR exchange rate, a holiday in EUR Europe will be really good value for you USD holders….

There are many reasons to ski the Alps. They are so big. Where to go?
Logistical reasons, the value of money, best rides ever, the highest mountains etc.
I recommend St. Anton (Austria). It is in the central Alps, not far away of Switzerland, Italia and Germany.

OK, I am now seriously looking into this, probably France - dates TBC but avoiding European school holidays, probably late February/early March.

Please let me know if you are seriously interested.

I can either source a hotel and ask people to book separately, or book a chalet.  The plus for a hotel would be flexibility (for example if someone wants to come for just a few days), whereas a chalet would mean a full week's commitment.  So, to help make some plans can you let me know:

                                  • if you'd want to come for entire week or just few days?
                                  • will you come with a friend/partner to share a room?
                                  • if on your own, are you prepared to share?
                                  • any dates you can't do?

                                  Let's get this party started!
