To me its actually a kinda strange place. People make a pilgrimage from all over to this once cathedral in the middle of nowhere in northern Spain. So when you get there you see tons of backpackers and super religious people from all over the world. The cathedral houses St. James remains and is itself stunning.

I was there many years ago. I touched with my hand the statue of St. James (made of gold and precious stones), located behind the altar that our friend Onairda is admiring in the picture.
Like him, I made "el Camino de Santiago" pilgrimage (not by feet, I did it with a car!), the same shown in the movie "La voie lactee" by Luis Buñuel (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066534/), from Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela.
It was an unforgettable experience! Many many fabulous places and a lot of strange, magic stories, as the one of the resurrected chickens, the miracle performed by St. James in Santo Domingo de la Calzada. I strongly suggest you take this journey because it became one of the most beautiful memories in my life!
